Good deal.
Several years ago I planned an out of state guided hunt with a buddy that I had been on other hunts with. Booked it in the winter with $1000 down payment per man. He said "I'm in" so I just sent the outfitter his deposit too and told him to get it to me soon as possible.
I reminded him several times about it and told him to just stick a check in the mail, since we've not had a chance to hook up. Months go by and I'm getting frustrated. It's time to apply for licenses per the outfitters guidelines, so I send for mine and at that point tell the outfitter just to transfer the buddies deposit to the balance of my hunt, because I'm not sure if he's going or not.
About 60 days before departure, the buddy calls and wants to get together because he has my money. Told him I sent for licenses a few weeks ago and told the outfitter I didn't know if he was going or not. Also told him I'm sure there would be an opening and a license available, all he needs to do is call the outfitter, work it out and we're back on track.
He got kind of pi$$y with me saying "You know I was good for the money". I explained he had months to pay, and that there was still opportunity to go on this hunt if he would just make a phone call and send some money, no hard feelings, but I'm not going to send the money or make the calls. Haven't heard much out of him since and that's been a couple years. I really don't have hard feelings and feel like we could get along just fine. I'd hunt with him again, just wouldn't bankroll him.
When money is involved, everyone needs to communicate openly and honestly, and hold up their end of the bargain, or people start getting mad.
