I have had to cock my Mission 320 while in my Summit climber. I use a retractable dog leash as my pull up rope and got up about 25 feet up. Got settled in and started to pull the bow up and realized I forgot to cock it. I didn't like doing it, but with my HSS vest on I felt confident that I wouldn't fall out and really it wasn't to bad. I didn't want to have to go back down to the ground to do it. I had already made enough noise the first time going up.

Missed the biggest buck I've ever shot at the first year I hunted with a crossbow. He was a possible Booner. I misjudged the distance and shot under him. He didn't run off, just jumped a little and slowly walked. I had so much adrenaline pumping that I somehow re cocked the crossbow the only way possible...I put the butt of the stock against my chest and pulled it by hand. No way I could do that under normal conditions! That buck had me shook up for a long time....still haunts me! Never got another look at him.

I have shot three deer (1 doe and 2 bucks) with a crossbow. Luckily I have not had to reload after the shot. Was always able to get down and reload in case a follow up shot was ever needed.

My hang on stand has a 30 x 60 platform, so I have no issues recocking at 30 feet up.

Still have not figured out how to re cock in a tree stand. Definitely a acrobatic act in a tree. Especially in a climber. Climber would be tough. I didn't have any problem recocking after I gave a coyote a haircut two years ago, but nothing was standing around waiting for me to shoot at it either.

Crossbows are freaking heavy. I was going to buy the woman's version of Excalibur's Axiom until I realized it didn't save much weight or length at all. I just take my husband's when it gets cold, otherwise I take my lightweight compound that I love (much easier and quieter). I would be very careful about recocking in a treestand. I've had better luck out of ground hunting these past years except for gun season anyways.

My hang on stand has a 30 x 60 platform, so I have no issues recocking at 30 feet up. Dang...I thought I bought some big ones for us, pops feels more safe in the bigger ones, I personally still prefer the small ones with minimal outline. The single shot "one and done" aspect of the crossbow (due to both inability to re-cock and noise) and the challenge they sometimes present in the awkwardness of being able to maneuver them in tight spots, to me, kind of erase some of their advantages over a vertical bow. Both have advantages and disadvantages. To me it's kind of a wash. Different animals, for sure, but similar challenge level. Definitely in certain situations the compound/long/traditional bows win out...but the crossbow is still a gun that shoots bolts haha! (I fully expect to shoot one someday so this is tongue in cheek somewhat) If not for the cross bow I could not hunt archery. Would rather use regular bow but this old body will not let me This is the advantage to them no doubt, and why I've never been against their inclusion for those unable or have physical issues limiting their ability to hunt with a compound/long/traditional bow. I too someday know I'll use one. No, its not a bow, its a high power rifle... Thats according to so many around my circle. They have no clue. I have two now, just dont have time to stay good with vertical anymore with a family. They are different and take some getting used to for sure. To each his own. I too have friends that think they're like a high powered rifle...they are just as wrong as the guys that think crossbows are the exact same as a compound/long/traditional bow. Wanna start a war of words in a group of hunters just bring up crossbows and push record

The thing I like the most about crossbows is that it seems like it is easier for me to hold it steady. During a draw on the bow I can get shaky after a bit but maybe it could be improved if I work out. I also like how easy crossbows are to sight in or at least my fiance made it look easy. I also like that I can shoot sitting down and be super comfortable.
Ironically I get hung up on more crap and limbs when I used a compound, lol.

Sighting in a crossbow is as easy as a gun...2 maybe three shots and you're killing quality if sighted in properly.

And shooting one off of a bench is just as easy as shooting any scoped gun .... even shooting sticks are able to turn a complete novice shooter into dead-eye-Jim (or in my wifes case dead-eye-Jamie).
My wife couldnt hit the target with her compound but can send kill shot after kill shot downrange with her xbow.

I can't hold my arm straight in front of me, as if holding a bow, let alone try to hold a bow in that position. There is no doubt in my mind that for one to shoot a compound bow as well as a crossbow requires a lot of practice, strength and talent. Anyone capable of doing this should feel good about their ability. However, because were are wretched humans, it would be easy for someone with this talent and strength to think less of someone who cannot do it for whatever reason.

I think there should be a season for the real hunters, like naked and afraid. ...maybe naked and pointy stick season. ...maybe a loin cloth would be allowable for the modest real hunters, or body paint. No compound bows allow! No, I'm talking real hunters. For the handicap real hunter, maybe a long bow could be allowed??? We can't forget the handicap.
The crossbow has taken the real hunter's season away from them and they need to feel good about their abilities.
The pointy stick could be any length, so the hunter could pole-vault on top of the deer and ride it like a bull???
I think I'm on to something.

That's one thing with going traditional - you do have to be aware of what is around that you could get in to with your bow. My recurve is 58"; add 10" to that for a long bow and I'm sure it is even more pronounced. Pretty well have to shoot standing out of my climber now as well.

We know that a real hunter would just rub dirt on it and stay in pursuit. This old man will wait on crossbow season.
