My parents own a cottage on West Lakes Chain in Noble County and the DNR closed that lake chain last Friday due to high water. They just got 1/2" of rain last night up there and a check of the USGS website says the lake level is on the rise AGAIN. I figure we need two weeks of completely dry, hot, and sunny weather to get the lake level to drop back down below the threshold where they closed it. Right now it's about 3 feet above normal (which is about 1 foot above where they closed it to all motorboat traffic).
All roads that lead to the Roush Lake Shooting Range are underwater so the shooting range is closed until further notice.
I drove down I-69 to Indy a couple of weeks ago and there was water up to the edge of I-69 from the Salamonie Lake area. I've never seen it that high. I know a lot of people who hunt the Salamonie/Roush DNR properties and they are very worried this flooding is going to decimate the hunting in those areas this season.

Just heard on the news today that Noble County's Emergency Management Office has begun to issue voluntary evacuation orders for some houses on the West Lakes Chain. Some houses now have water in them and those that do have begun to affect the sewer system. I heard that pumps for part of the sewer system for one of the lakes on the chain had to be shut down due to the inundation of flood waters.
I also heard some say the lake level has risen to a new record level, but that is unconfirmed. As of right now, the lake level seems to be leveling off at 9.69 feet, according to the USGS website.

Looks like it might dry up a little this week. Here in Greenwood, instead of those 5 days of sun that I mentioned, we got 5" of rain.

My brother-in-law told me this weekend that he thinks he'll be lucky to get 1/3 harvest this year on his crops. He said that it is worse than the drought a few years back.

My brother-in-law told me this weekend that he thinks he'll be lucky to get 1/3 harvest this year on his crops. He said that it is worse than the drought a few years back. No doubt about that. In the farm fields here in my area that are near rivers that flooded, everything that the flood waters touched is dead.
