Just thought I would share this experience. 4 years ago I was working in Miami county and drove past a farm that looked like it had some awesome deer habitat. I drove up to the house and asked for permission to hunt right then. The guy said his nephew actually owned the land but it would probably be ok. I came back a week later and confirmed that I had permission. So I started hunting the 250 acre farm. Over the past few years, I have gotten to know the owner fairly well. He's about my age and I discovered he inherited the farm when his dad passed away only a few months before I met him. I also found out he also owned 4 other farms totaling over 1500 acres. As much as I wanted to, I refrained from asking about hunting the other properties. Instead I took as good care of the one I had permission on as I could, treating it better than if it was my own. I keep people off, keep the trails and ditch mowed, cut trees out of the trails after storms. I put in a new wood burner in the uncle's house two winters ago. And each year I've sent a gift card for cabelas or bigR to the owner and his uncle. So a few days ago I ran into the owner in the store and talked to him for a while. All of a sudden he says...hey I've got a few other farms that I can show you sometime you might like to hunt, nobody else is hunting them. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I thanked him and we made plans to get together 4th of July weekend to walk the other farms...he also already said if I want to put in any food plots I'm more than welcome and he'll even help or let me use one of his tractors (he's a grain farmer). So needless to say I can hardly contain my excitement. I already ordered 6 more covert trail cams to put out, and an entire pallet of mineral...May have went a bit overboard but if I put mineral sites at each new property ill have 12 sites total to maintain. I can't wait! Patience patience patience....that's all I can say.....it certainly paid off for me
