So it seems that mice have made a snack of my real turkey fan for my decoy. Not sure if I should still attempt to use it or use the silk fan that came with it. What say you? Real with extensive damage.... Silk....

From personal experience... We have had much better results from real feathers than the fake fan. We don't know if it is the 3D aspect of real, or the sheen of them or what. But without doubt, that has been our experience. In fact, we have a few older decoys we made that are just tail feathers glued into a styrofoam ball on a stick, and they work better than a store bought lifesize decoy with the silk fan many times over. Again, just from our experiences but we have had pretty good success.

I keep every fan we get and usually replace the fan in the b mobile bracket a couple times a year. They just don't hold their shape well after being folded up and stuffed in the decoy bag.
Because of this I actually started using a full fan that I spread and dried out. Not as easy to pack around but stays looking good a lot longer. The fan from Beccas hunt is in its 2nd year, had 3 birds killed over, flew out of the back of the truck and lost for a couple months and still looks good..

I have been using the real feathers the past few seasons with my b mobile and have found great success. The only issue is the damage that the mice have done to it. Just not sure how well the real feathers pictured above will perform or if they'll smell a rat! No pun intended....

I think you should use the real fan, even if they look bad. Just J-B Weld them babies to a Funky Chicken, and make yourself a Junky Funky Chicken!!!

Ok cool. I have a friend that has a couple but he's currently in Nebraska hunting turkeys. He'll be back in a couple days. If I can't get one from him I'll let ya know. Thanks!
