Nah, the reason it got so many negative responses is due to the myths out there about HPR's that people believe. Exactly, myths and misinformation are definitely the reasons. My 23" fully rifled barrel arrived today. Already removed my turkey barrel and installed the deer barrel. Plan to give this set up a workout. Going to start with several different slugs and then move up to the much more expensive sabots. Dropped a 4x Leupold on the shotgun. Living within the archaic rules.........

Check the ballistics of some of the 12 gauge sabot slugs shot from a rifled barrel. Also search (Google) for reports of kills out to 200 yards. A round such as the Rem Accu Tip appears to transform a shotgun into what is very close to a rifle in terms of muzzle velocity, muzzle energy, 100 yard energy and bullet flight. Maximum point blank range for the Accu Tip is 160 yards! Recommended zero is 94 yards. I can live with that. The important point made by Chuck Hawks in the article cite I mentioned above, is that this type of bullet has a high probability of being more dangerous than a bullet from a HPR. These sabots are .50 cal and up. The Accu Tip is .58 cal. A small limb isn't going to stop that round. In the interest of full disclosure I have not shot these yet. I have always hunted with Brenneke Magnum slugs, smooth bore barrel and a rifled choke. But, Friday I did order a fully rifled 23" barrel for my 870 and did the research on the sabot slugs. My thinking is this combo is going to get as close as the rules provide to an HPR You are right that sabot slugs can easily reach 200yds. Two seasons ago I hunted with a rifled slug bore on a Mossberg 500 shotgun. I used the Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra Shotgun Slugs with my gun sighted in at 150yds this is my 200yd target. It is a little low but still a kill shot at 200yds. I took an eight point buck that year at 95 yds, hit him a little high but he went down & stayed down. I hunt deer with a .300 blackout AR pistol now & will use it next season unless they change the rules.

Is it possible that we could see an emergency rule to allow them for this season?
This would produce real world data from the effected state without making a change that would require a long process to reverse. The rule change could then be revisited next year with real world facts to support the decision either way.

Why would there be a ruling like that to settle a social issue that more voiced opinion against than for?

The DNR withdrew it and the top dog OKed that withdrawel. It will be back in another form in the next year or two..

Seems like a solid tool for hunting

Could have been a landslide against that would make it difficult to ignore .... once word got out and folks were made aware of the proper input procedures hard telling what happened.

If that's the case then there gonna have to change some folks minds to ever get rifles to pass..... Good luck with that!!!
Plenty of Hardheaded Hoosiers in this state ....

Didnt you say in the past that if it were a landslide one way or the other they would have to take that direction or the public would revolt?
