Woody, Because there statement was started with the "two citizens petition"........ Why did they start the statement that way!!! Maybe because that was the Main selling point! Maybe sucking up ? J/K ...maybe The DNR lists everything positive on every proposal. This HPR has been a subject for many, many years. This wasn't just thought up this last year..

Nope he's one place on the map....... Anybody heard from Kentucky Lake lately? No where did that horse go? Found it!!!!! He has been on Archery talk a lot lately starting many threads and has gained the reputation of having a hidden agenda there by his questions or polls he posts .They think he may be involved in land leasing because they all have to do with when to open up seasons in every state around him ,where do you hunt and show me your big bucks !! LOL !!!! Some over there are just lease paranoid. I was accused of being a big time leaser and locking up ground to keep others out. I've had 12,000 acres to hunt at one time, but have never leased in my life. Most people that have been removed from or locked out of the ground that I do/did have has all been by their own actions.

Im sure it was ... or it could be something as silly as someone in the DNR telling a buddy "hey, request we legalize rifles" and that was the public request. The DNR does not need to ask anyone to make a suggestion. Every GotInput session the suggestions are all over the map. The DNR can pick and choose which ones fits what they want...and it only takes one such suggestion to run with it. As far as the "signed petitions" = I'm told that they are considered that is why you saw the one in the mailed in file. BUT - again, noses are being counted so a petition holds no more weight any other pieces of input. An outdoor "journalist" was highly whizzed that his multi signed petition didn't sway the NRC on Proposition 2.. Speaking of an outdoor "journalist".....check out his most recent column outdoorswithdon.com/

How very much true!! Money speaks, and the Fish & Game Dept. along with Bear Hunters out in Colorado "Walk". Those with the means (money) would rather have more Ski Resorts & Golf Courses, so they buy their way in at the expense of Hunters. David, You are all over the map on this subject.. Yeah, I guess I did get slightly off subject. <sorry> Time for me to let this thread go anyway. This topic of HPRs is an Indiana issue, not a Kentucky one; anyway how this issue of HPR in Indiana turns out, I just hope it is for the best for all involved, in my Home State of Indiana.

This post, Shouldernuke wrote about me, should be deleted so Woody please do your job. <Thanks> This is my last post on this stupid thread. Then who?

Most likely due to the population density in your area. I am uncertain why it's safe to use HPRs 3-miles from you home unless it is a target range, or you live three miles from Kentucky.
Correct. I live less than 3 miles from Kentucky. I guess technically I could be killed in my yard by someone deer hunting in Kentucky, but it's safe for them to hunt with one? Get on Google Earth and tell me why it is safe for Henderson County, Kentucky to use rifles with no restictions, but not Posey County, Indiana.

The whole safety issue is not valid on it's face as has been beat to death repeatedly on here.

I use a 308 in a handgun. Doesn't seem stupid to me. Whatever "floats-your-boat"......Be sure to wear ear protection. I always use ear protection shooting my hand cannon. Looks like I will next year with a rifle also.

Whatever "floats-your-boat"......Be sure to wear ear protection. I always use ear protection shooting my hand cannon. Looks like I will next year with a rifle also. I always wear hearing protection EVERY TIME I'm hunting with a gun, any gun, not just at the range. I even make the wife wear hearing protection when she is vacuuming the house. I wear mine full-time in the shop and even when I'm mowing the yard. I've seen my dad face increasing struggles with his hearing loss the older he gets, and I don't want to end up that way. Take my word for it people, hearing is not something you want to lose. It is tough on relationships and dealing with the people around you. It is probably the only disability where people become angry with the person that has the disability. Sorry for going off topic a bit here, but it is an important issue.

Sorry for going off topic a bit here, but it is an important issue. I suffer from hearing loss and I agree with what you two posted 110%. It might be too little and too late for me, but I still want to protect what little hearing I have left. I missed out on a very nice ten pointer a few years back as I was walking to my stand for an evening hunt. There he was just standing there at 60 yards and me with no hearing protection in yet. By the time I ducked down and put in my hearing protection he had left. I absolutely will not shoot my gun without hearing protection.. nice buck or not. When gun hunting the very first thing I do when I get in my stand is put on my electronic muffs... before I even pull up my gun. When your hearing is gone, it is GONE. Hearing aids help somewhat but your hearing will never be what it once was, hearing aids or not. Wear them...and make sure your family does too.

Do those take noise down to OSHA approved level??? Yes, all of mine are hearing safe with no earplugs. According to OSHA, the threshold for hearing damage is 140 dB. All of mine are 132 dB or less, depending on caliber. Here's my buddy shooting his .223 AR-15 with my suppressor on it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyHx91k6R_s

Being exposed to as little as 85 dba for eight hours can cause damage. So, if you are at the shooting range for 6 to 8 hours popping off 132 dba shots you can cause damage to your hearing. www.osha.gov/SLTC/noisehearingconservation/

Yeah, I have to undergo hearing conservation classes and testing annually due to my job, and they explained that a lower dB rating over longer periods of time does damage. Impulse noises from muzzle blasts happen so quickly that the level must be higher to do the same damage as longer-term lower dB sounds. Suppressors that fall below 140 dB are considered "hearing safe" due to their short duration. Obviously, in your scenario, it would definitely do some damage. In most instances, I'm only shooting a single shot at a time while hunting. And if practicing, I rarely shoot more than a box of ammo in one sitting anymore.

My standards exceed OSHA standards when it comes to my hearing.
I won't watch a movie in a movie theatre without hearing protection (since they have the volume jacked up so frickin high). I went to see TSO in concert a few years ago, and yes, I wore hearing protection then too. I honestly can't even stand to drive down the highway with my windows down because the wind noise is so loud (to me, anyway).
Woody - I put on my hearing protection BEFORE I load my gun. Which is to say if I can and I do hunt on my way to the stand, I'm already wearing hearing protection.
