I have the itch for a new concealed carry revolver. I have a 1911, a 4" .357, a Glock 19, and a hammerless .38 snubbie. The bigger ones are hard to conceal, and the hammerless snub doesn't have a hammer for a holster strap to go over. Been looking around- Taurus makes a couple, the model 85 and another in.357, both 2". Ruger makes a nice little 2", the LCR I think. Looked at a Charter Arms too. I would like a 2 1/2" barrel but could live with a 3".
Anybody have a recommendation or two along the line? I don't want to have to take out a second mortgage

Unfortunately I'm not going to be much help. In a 2.5" I really like the prelock K Frames, which are rather expensive. The prelock 2" Model 10 would be an option but prices on them are rising on them as well. (btw can you tell I really hate the lock!) There is the S&W 36 or 60 (5 shot) but once again prices are climbing. Many people like the SP101, I had one and even with a grip change it hit a bone in my hand as was not comfortable at for me. I don't consider Taurus or Charter an option. I have no experience with the LCR. Oh, 1 more thing - I really prefer the prelock S&W's when it comes to wheel guns; (could you tell?) the one exception to that is heavy hunting revolvers, then the Rugers interest me as well.

My .357 is a Taurus. It is my woods gun. It is pretty darned accurate, been a good fun fun, the finish is not that good. They have improved their quality in recent years but still not on par with S&W or Ruger I think. I looked the little Ruger pretty hard, Ruger is hard to beat. I use a Ruger 77/44 all weather for deer and it is a fine, fine rifle.
Rural King had the Ruger .38 +P for about $300 recently. I have learned that you can actually hit something with a 2" barrel gun, but you gotta practice, practice, practice.

Actually I think that price was the .380 LCP. The LCR was still the cheapest I have seen though. The exposed hammer model is called the LCRx.

FWIW, I absolutely love my LCRx! I found that if you want to shoot some +P loads, the accuracy will generally not be so good. I am not so concerned with power. So, I started playing around with different loads and found an old cowboy load that is sub 1, 000 fps but the semi wadcutters proved to be highly accurate. ?.especially for a snubbie! I feel satisfied with 5 rounds and find that the gun actually carries about like my wallet in pocket. At 5 yards, I surprise myself how well it shoots!

I had a Taurus 85 and liked it fine. But for the past several years I have carried a S&W 36 Airweight. It is very small and light.

Colt Detective Special? Harder to find but a good shooter and good investment...gunbroker.com has several listed right now.

I have a model 85 that I have carried for about 20 years and never had a problem.I practice enough that I hit what I aim at out to 15 yards.

My wife carries the S&W Airweight and I carry the Ruger LCR 38+P. Both are great guns.I really like my Ruger. Handles recoil better than most light weight revolvers. They both have better trigger pulls than Taurus or Charter Arms. We both have the laser grips. You can't go wrong with either S&W or Ruger. But I do prefer the Ruger.

In small frame .38's make sure it will handle +P ammo. Finding .38 special in non +P JHP is real tough. I have a S&W 36 and the hammer can dig into your side. Look around for a better holster for your snubby may be a good way to go. BTW Dirty Harry did not have a problem concealing his M29

I have not shot that much plus P ammo - I have a rather large stockpile of standard .38 I am working through. How much speed or knockdown power is gained? I was thinking about a .357 but for urban environments I don't want to fire a round in, say, a drugstore, and hit the guy in the coffee shop three doors down.
I really like that little Ruger, I think it is emerging as my front-runner.

I forgot to mention that I use Crossbreed Holsters. They are in the pants style that are very comfortable and do not need a strap.

All I could find was either lead round nose or FMJ round nose in .38 special. In the +P I could get the Jacketed HP ammo. .357 Mag beats .38+P hands down.

Well I think I will start shopping for a Ruger LCRx. Don't think I can go wrong. I will look at the Crossbreed. I am in Los Angeles on business at the moment. First opening day I have missed in 23 years. I had an extra day so a friend took me around sightseeing some. The drought is unbelievable. I tell you it is scary dry. I understand there has been nothing since 1" last March. I have had some great food though, my pal out here knows the back-street Italian and Mexican joints where the good stuff is.
The best is the people watching. There are some real characters walking around. There is a huge tall building that has "Scientology" in big letters at the top. I guess if you spend much time downtown you will eventually be approached by their zombies in suits asking if you want a free "stress test". The hotel is 2 blocks from the beach, so I walked down there for a few hours.
I missed opening weekend but my crew shot two nice bucks on my place in Parke County.
Snowing there is it?
