I gave my cape to my taxidermist so he could have a spare since I decided on a Euro mount on this one. I boiled the skull down today..didn't think it turned out too bad! A little work left on it and then mount it to the one of the angled wall plaques that my Dad makes!

Thats a perfect rack type for a euro mount. They look really good with a symmetrical 8. I had my buck from last year done as a Euro by my taxidermist and he's doing this year's buck for me too. Both symmetrical 8s. I don't have the confidence to do it myself. It costs me $125. Maybe one of these days I'll try one. Yours is looking good. Will you bleach it?

Met..I won't use bleach because it makes the skull brittle. I'll either use a peroxide mixture or spray paint it flat white!

That's good looking so far. I use the 40% concentrated peroxide from a beauty store. Just soak it for a few hours and then spray it off. They are quickly turning into my favorite mount.

You made quick work of that head HF.... Did you just use water during the boil or did you add the peroxide or is that the next step ? I plan on doing mine euro style. Looking good

Met, you should give it a try. Its not that hard to do. Basically you skin it, cook it, pick it clean, and then whiten it with peroxide. Try to keep it just under a boil. A good simmer is just about right. Boiling water isn't good for the bone. I use a turkey fryer set up to cook skulls. Before that I did it over a fire. I simmer them until the meat releases from the bone. It usually takes 3-4 hours. I'll do a second cook just a little lower heat with dawn dish soap in the water to get some of the grease out of the bone. Don't get the peroxide on the antlers, it will turn them white. You can mix the peroxide with baby powder to make a gel that you can paint around the bases. I have my buck, three other bucks, and a bucket of miscellaneous critter skulls to do this year so far.

Looking good I went ahead and boiled it for two reasons..1. It was just skinned out on Sun. evening by the taxidermist so the head was still fresh and not rotting!(You don't want to boil a rotten head..it's bad news trust me!!) 2. I'm on vacation and had the time to mess with it today! I just used water and dish soap and brought to a boil on the side burner of my grill..it took about 6 hrs.. I pulled it out every once in a while and used a pick and wire brush to clean off the loosened material! A pretty simple deal really!!
