We are getting our gun season set up ready this week. We usually sit on a half dried up pond that the deer use every morning for their water source. Went to check out the spot this weekend and there is some thick brush growing all around it. We are planning on taking the dozer out in the next couple of days and once again clearing the brush out so we will be able to shoot the whole pond. Also got to get the guns sighted in! Lot of stuff that needs to be done before Saturday morning. Any of you guys making some last dash efforts to get things ready for gun season?

May check for active deer activity and hang a stand. Remove archery accessories from the pack and replace with firearm accessories is about all I can think of. Hoping to get one more sit in with the bow, kinda sad that the early archery is coming to an end.

Was out yesterday morning. Natural blind has faded to just the right color, blending in perfectly. Sighted my slug gun, all shots less than one inch from center. Ready to go. Side note... I wasn't trying very hard yesterday at being quiet and I know my presence was known. On a trip to the truck and back, a deer had walked by and left a fair amount of droppings ten feet in front of my blind. I think I got the message loud and clear. ?

Went out last Thursday evening to check stands, and Friday evening to scout the east side of woods across a creek along the bean field. Nice signs everywhere. Pushed a big buck on Friday, I'm sure he heard me walking the beans and dry leaves in the edge of the field as I was downwind of him. He was on the other side of a small levee from me too so he didn't see me. I pushed him twice and he'd had enough and busted out of the woods about 100 yds away running across the harvested section of field to the northeast. Couldn't see the rack clearly, but he was that dark brown color. I hope I can sneak in there unnoticed in the next couple of weeks and have him come close enough.

gotta fasten a new ladder stand to a tree with the help of a brother then shoot the .44 a few more times and I'm good to go!
I may smoke my clothes again. Got the idea from a few on here so I had a little bonfire at the house on Friday night and hung my clothes downwind all night. I had a small 6 only 10 yards directly down wind of me yesterday evening that never batted an eye, he was back and forth probably 4 times past my stand and I was only 15' up. I'm convinced it works!

The youngest son and I are gonna trim a few limbs around a stand we hung last Friday and tighten up my wife's stand and we're done with that part. I might have to sight in Momma threetoes's shotgun if she decides to use it instead of her .35.

All I have to do is check poi on smoke pole. What is the smoking cloths about? I always figured deer would react negatively to the smell of smoke

Well, such didn't intend to be QUITE so last second but is turning out that way.
A buddy picked up a small ring Mauser someone had barreled and chambered for a 35 Rem. Putting a scope on it left the scope WAY forward of what he ( or I ) would be able to use comfortably and more than a week ago I found and ordered a picatinny rail mount for that model (that took some finding)and it shipped 7 days ago.
Starting out in N. Illinois, it went to Ohio for a few days and now is in E central Michigan. Due date was today.
It started out from the store 125 miles away.
I just checked the tracking number again it shows it's still in Michigan so......yep last minute scope mounting and shooting to sight er in is the where we will be.
God Bless

I've had my son out the last two days killing pumpkins with his new muzzleloader. If a deer is within 50 yards, he should have no problem at all.
I have to make a trip out to a box blind and put the rubber mat on the floor, hang the curtains and drop the heater off to keep him warm. Can't wait.
I got bored a work last night and ordered a new jacket. Hope it makes it by Saturday

I wasn't aware that .35 was legal yet. Thought that didn't go into affect till next year?

In Africa we were burning zebra crap in the blind for cover scent. Worked great, had all kinds of game with in feet of us several times and had no clue and no concerns.. The local Guides claimed horse crap will work all the same.. just burn it kinda like charcoal, just a nice smolder...
