I've never owned anything but cheapo binoculars. I'll probably never be willing to fork out big bucks for a pair...just have lots of other toys I'd rather have. I did want to upgrade to something half way decent, though. I shopped around for what looked good under $100. Last night I bought some Nikon Aculon A211 in 7 X 35. They were $79.99. They had great reviews on Amazon. I looked through them and they sure are a big upgrade for me. Anyone have these? Anything I should know?

Never looked through them but imagine how good they look compared to what you're used to....multiply that by 5 and you get into how good "mid range" binocs look.
Good glass is worth the money. I'm not sure great glass is worth the money for most of us but good glass is.
I'm going into my 12th year using my Pentax binocs.

Lol....it sometimes feels like it. Good glass can make it seem like you're looking through brush.
I remember using cheaper glass and having to close one eye just to see clearly.
Course glass has come so far in the last 20 years your new binocs are possibly as clear as mid range glass was back then.
Ive been rough on my Pentax though and they keep on trucking.

Clarity is fairly easy anymore.
Low light performance is a bit trickier.
Standing up to years of abuse without failure is pretty hard.
Putting all 3 together is where things start to get expensive.

Greetings When I started this job we were issued with Russian Binos, awfull things, I blame them for ruining my eyes and needing specs. But our lot went mad and bought us all a pair of Leica rangefinder Binos, brilliant Binos but I could not justify the 1600 pound price they paid for each pair for personal use. I use Steiner Binos for my personal pair and to compliment them I use a Leuopold range finder, that does me. Regards Billy

Steiner. Leupold. Leica.
All good brands.
I'd like to have a pair of swarovskis and likely would if I made a living hunting. But, I don't.

Greetings Swilk I've had there Binos they went for the rangefinder pair and I am now using a swarvoski scope on my work rifle. In my eyes they are greatly over priced for what they are, in the uk anyway. Yes they are good. But there is other stuff as good and a lot cheaper. Scope wise Leuopold is hard to beat, I use one on my personal 308 and love it, I much prefer it to the swvoroski. But everyone's eyes are different. Regards Billy

My then 4 year old won a pair of 10x42 Steiners last year. I had always had cheap binos too, but not after getting these.
Now if he would just let me use them when we go out looking. I practically have to bribe him to get to use them.

I have what I consider to be a "Mid-Range" pair, which are $300 Bushnells, and I have a $35 pair of Bushnells that ride around in my truck. The $300 pair really shines when I'm hunting out west and glassing large expanses for several hours.. No eyestrain or headaches, like the cheap ones would give me.
Truth is, though, I pack the cheap ones to my stand here in Indiana just as often as the nice ones. I usually just use mine to check out a distant deer, squirrel, bird, etc., and don't really spend a lot of time picking apart the brush with them or anything. The cheap ones work just fine for me for most Indiana duty.

I'm a brief look through the binos guy too. Many hunts I never use them. I'd have liked to have had my new pair last Friday when I was trying to watch shooter buck 150 yards across field in waning light. That's when I committed to upgrade.

Its like anything else.... wants and needs dictate what a person is willing to invest.
A shotgun only hunter who's longest shot possible is 75 yards had little need to invest in a good range finder.
If you don't use binocs there is little need to own a good pair.

Greetings It's is 8.45pm here, just had a phone call going foxing at 9.30pm, so my Binos are going to be in action again with the lamp. Already dropped one Fox today with the hornet so another would be nice. All helps the farming community, that's if they are moving tonight, take a camera this time, I've found it again. Lol Regards Billy

I always used cheap binos too and never saw a need for a good set since I hardly ever used them.
Lucked into a good sale on a set of mid level Leupolds about 2 years ago and love them. You'll find yourself looking through the glass a lot more now that you can actually see good through them. I did anyways.

I use a Pentax 8 X 36 roof prisim in camo. Camo is because I wouldn't want the deer to see me looking at them.

I have some great success dealing with Eagle Optics. We purchased three great binocs for a school grant last year @ 99.00 each with free shipping that compared well with the higher end binocs that several adults brought in. These folks will take the time to compare several models/brands at their desk and call you back with the results. It is just a great company. It is possible to get a very good pair for not a lot of money.
