This is a deer hunting thread really... I'm wondering if a coyote comes through the immediate area of where i'm sitting in a stand, does that mean my hunts over and I might as well get down and relocate? I've only seen a coyote twice while in the stand and I do believe that both times I got skunked on those sits.

Well... I would say that depends. I've had times that I've seen yotes when hunting near a water source and an hour or two later have killed deer in the same place. Other times when hunting in a thicket near their food. I've seen yote and nothing else for the rest of the day. I think alot of it depends on if your hunting over their food or water source. I would assume that for the smell of a yote near a water source would be a normal occurance for a deer. In a thicket near a deers food source. Most likely not so good. Not sure if that helps ya but is what I have noticed in 21 years of hunting.

Had two come on on me and my gf tonight. Stayed put and got skunked. Could be unrelated but I killed a gobbler this year a half hour after a coyote came through. Deer can smell a lot better so i would say its unlikely. But coming from a different direction as the coyotes isn't out of the realm of possibilities I would say. Just my $.02.

I'd give the yote a dirt nap. That way I don't have to worry about him ruining my hunt again =D

It really all depends on the deer. I have seen deer move through an area shortly after a coyote, and I've seen a heard of deer stop and turn around with a coyote in an area...and I've seen a buck walk almost next to a coyote and pay it no attention at all.

I've had coyote's within 25 yds of deer and the deer pretty much ignored them. (I've only seen a coyote once chase a adult deer in all my year's of hunting) And it was young solo yote. Usually yote's prey on fawn's or sick, injured deer (I'm sure there are exception's Ex. REALLY HUNGREY. But it's been my experience that coyote's are looking for a easy meal and a adult whitetail is far from an easy meal.

Just blast it lol. Scent is everything when you aren't near an immediate water source. You'll come away with a kill anyways!

JDUB1 had a 'yote run 3 deer on him during youth weekend. half hour later there were 9 deer out in the same general area. I had a 'yote run a bunch of deer when down in KY one evening and never saw another thing after that. I still hunt even after a 'yote occurrence. Seems they are always on a dead run when I see them.

Just a few years ago on the opener of bow, I watched a real nice 170lb 10 pt being chased for dear life by a very big, black coyote. It really changed my attitude and respect for coyotes after that. Now being in the woods without a gun is not an option anymore. I killed that buck later on, but never did see that coyote again.

I have several trail cam pics of yotes moving through the area and within the hour deer walk by as well.

I was at a deer seminar where Dr. Kroll was a speaker. He said to shoot every coyote that comes by, that gunfire won't bother deer. I paid attention to his "gunfire and deer" comment, and I believe he's right. So, now I'm not worried about spooking the deer, I figure a dead 'yote will only help the herd.
