Nothing but squirrel so far and a fox, which relieved himself on a deer scrape, which is a first for me.

Congrats Met....... Its going to be about 3 more weeks before I can hunt again. Fingers are doing good on healing up. Could not even hold a gun right now, I really do feel I could pull the bow back but then I still could not climb into a stand. Dont want to rush it, they hurt. Set my blind up yesterday in my UBZ spot. If I cant pull my bow back a buddy of mine is going to let me use his xbow, if I can get it cocked one handed. Had this whole week of for vaca to hunt and other things. So I guess other thing it is. Cleaning up my gun bench, boiling out my deer head as we speak. Took groceries to the food pantry at church yesterday.... still lots to do tho.

Thanks Billy!
Yes and no on dropping at the shot. My first shot she jumped and walked a few steps and stopped, my second shot dropped her like a sledge hammer.
When I recovered her, I saw the first shot was low. Probably not fatal. It was a pass thru but no vitals. Second shot tore her up! Broke her down in the front shoulders. Passed thru and left a gaping exit. I was surprised at the damage it did. I have known the .357 mag not to pass thru (my daughter's deer and some of my buddy's and his girls deer) but this one sure did, and at a pretty decent distance too. Second shot was probably 90-100 yards. I wish I'd have taken a pic of the exit side. I'm fortunate she didn't take off running after the first shot. Might not have gotten her if she had.

In my tower for the evening set. And of course my anti hunting neighbor sees me head back to my place. So he has to jump in atv and go cut wood on the property line. He only has a pile that's 5 story high. Couldnt burn it in 5 years. The bottom will rot before he gets to it. That's ok. He does this all the time. The deer in my west thicket just gets up and comes east. Right past me. Has worked for me before. Sometimes not. Good luck to everyone tonight.

No action here yet.

I climbed a huge hill tonight and left my climber hidden in a brush pile in anticipation of tomorrow morning's hunt. I get too sweaty carrying it up that hill when packing my hunting clothes and gear.

Might not have gotten her if she had. not sure how much meat is on a whitetail shoulder but with roe it is minimal, i put the bullet in there most of the time, especially if the light is starting to go, pins them every time. fallow i put it just tight behind, slightly high, the bullet takes out the artery to the heart and shocks the spine and down it goes. red deer just the same as fallow. On each of these species it is almost impossible to take the heart out without breaking at least one shoulder. if it runs i have got it wrong, lol regards billy

didn't see any deer, figured they'd be up and moving with weather coming in.
I'll be back bright and early!

Congrats on the doe Met. Is that rifle scoped? How far of a shot would you be comfortable taking with it?

Congrats on the doe Met. Is that rifle scoped? How far of a shot would you be comfortable taking with it? Yes, it's scoped. I sighted it in for my daughter to hit about an inch high at 50 yards. I shot today at 75-80 yards and then again at a little further than that. From my experience today, I feel comfortable calling it a 100 yard gun easily. Probably more, but not without some longer range practice.
