Seen 3 singles early, now I've got a group of 3 in front of me and another single behind me in a pasture. All appear the be antlerless R U buck hunting only? For the most part. I might take a doe just before I go home this evening. I'm usually limited on time/hunts when I come down here so I hate to bugger up any hunts before I get a buck. Def no shortage of does, I think I can kinda pick and choose if and when I take one.

Everything was covered in ice this morning from freezing rain here in LaPorte county. Everything! Glad I had already planned to not go out. Looks to have melted off as temp now climbed to 35deg.

Seen several more.
Got a pretty good buck locked down with a doe behind me. They are both bedded about 100yds away next to a clump of brush in a pasture. He almost got it... His left beam is broke past the g2....

Billy, If the rut over here was in July or August, the fawns would be dropping in the middle of the worst part of the winter, January and February. Don't think many would survive being born in O degree temps. Thanks for that, I also forgot to tell you that roe rut in July August but the clever does have delayed implantation. They implanted around Christmas, by March the embryos are big inside her, that's why I stop culling in February. Roe deer are very successful at reproduction, hence why I have a full time job. And muntjack deer are pregnant all year round in the UK. All interesting stuff to me. Regards Billy

Greetings I wonder why the whitetail deer rut is so late in the year, roe is July August, everything has time to recover and feed up before winter closes in, but whitetails are running off reserves during winter. How many kids do the does drop on average? Most roe set off with two embryos but can 're digest one or both dependent on food availability etc. I was part of the team that done the survey many years ago. Strange rutting in winter. Regards Billy Billy, Whitetail Rut is mostly based on day length. As days become shorter this triggers hormonal production associated with breeding in this species of Deer. Also weather conditions play a smaller role in Whitetail Rut. Thank you It's all good stuff to understand,
