As most of you know, I have been waiting for final results of my bow buck's age from a process called cementum annuli. As posted here: huntingindiana.proboards.com/thread/50275/results-pending-bucks-antler-guessWELL, THE RESULTS ARE IN! However, I won't post the results until this Sunday evening around 8 pm (or whenever I get back from my daughter's wedding)! In the meantime, Henry, the owner of deerage.com has been kind enough to donate one of his Deer Aging Kits to a "worthy cause." And with Woody's blessing, it seemed that this site was the "worthiest" of causes!!! Here is the kit: Check out Henry's site here for more details: www.deerage.com/Here's the deal: All those who have responded to my original thread on aging my bow buck and anyone else who wants to reply with their final guess on the buck's age at this post will be included in a drawing for the deer aging kit! Please note, this IS the deer aging kit (instructions and what you need to gather your deers teeth for analysis). It IS NOT the forensic service to be performed. That price ranges from $25 to $50 depending on the level of service you desire! But Hey, It's FREE and a kind gesture from Henry!!! I will let one of my Grandsons pull a name out of a hat Sunday evening. That will be the winner. I will coordinate address and shipping via PM (unless I need Woody's help otherwise) at the end of the drawing.

OK I am going against the grain despite my first inclination of 3.5 I will say large bodied 2.5 year old.And if he turns out to be 4.5 or older this will affirm something I have argued for a very long time ." It is the fact that age does not mean huge or freakish antlers for most bucks in our state . Quite the opposite in most cases It it just means larger bodies in most instances "
Most hunters have a false belief that because they let all the bucks grow old they will all get large antlers and its not the case as I have seen it. My fingers are crossed here .But I am likely wrong on both counts lol thats just the way its working lately for my predictions.

So the age of this one deer will possibly prove a theory of yours?
I like your posts.

Hmm. Tough call. I'll go 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5. Lol. Oh are we supposed to only get one vote?
4.5 is my guess.

Just food for thought. When my "3.5 yo" got aged several years ago he turned out to be 5.5. The little "2.5 yo" I got the next year that people thought had to be an offspring of my old deer ended up being 6.5 and more than likely a brother.

Some might call an unproven belief a theory.

Antler growth is more likely a function of better nutrition in the area they live and better genetics. Genotype expressed as larger antlers in the phenotype.

Span, your vote is void. It has to have the .5 tied to it. No real dear hunter would just say 6 years old...jeez. Go run some rabbits!
