I got some ground i can hunt in IL. I went to their dnr website and was able to find the price of tags. I couldnt find out how to purchase tags.
Can non residents buy tags over the counter ?
Do nonresident tags have to be drawn for firearms and bow ?
Thanks for any help.

illinois does a lottery drawing for non residents in the summer, tags and annual hunting licence cost me $385 this year,if i remeber right cause i was over there hunting with an outfitter. i am pretty sure that the only tag you can get over the counter is an antlerless tag

i put in for the archery drawing, i dont know how there gun seasons work, i think they actually have three of them. the first being fours days then the others the following weekends. thats what the guys at the outfitter told us anyway. the way they put it you have to a valid gun permit to even put in and that the first season is real tough to get drawn for. late feb. to around march is when they will start updating the dnr website to make it more understandable, cause it is kinda confusing on how the do it. cause i know that my two tags since i put in with an outfitter, are only good on the ground that they own and lease. thats the way it seems anyway in the rules and regs they sent me when i got my tags.

Illinois currelty has 5 lotteries for deer tags.
First lottery (firearm/muzzleloader) is for residents only and deadline is in April.
Second Lottery (firearm/muzzlelaoder) is open to non residents and deadline is July or August.
The archery for non residents lottery I'm not sure when it is, but you have to call in for it.
There's also random daily drawings in September for leftover firearm and muzzleloader tags.
And the drawing in December for the Late firearm antlerless season (residents only and only certain counties).
Of course this is all assuming that everything stays the same next year. Going to the automated system may change the way they do everything.
I don't know about any over the counter tags for non residents. Illinois Residents can get archery tags over the counter.

I think the only over the counter for non-residents is antlerless only at $25 a pop.

I think the only over the counter for non-residents is antlerless only at $25 a pop. That would make sense. I think that's the fee they charge for antlerless in the lotteries too. I wish they'd do away with the lotteries and go over the counter like Indiana. That and lengthen the seasons, fix the hunting rules, and while I'm wishing for the impossible outlaw leasing ground for hunting purposes.

The non-resident archery lottery is easy to get. I put it for it last year and was told everyone that put in for it was awarded tags due to a low number of applicants. Like buckeater said- it runs almost $400 for 1 either sex and 1 doe tag along with you liscense and some other tag/stamp....
