and I can't wait. Being Father's Day, I looked at the calendar on my desk, and realized it's only 2 mos. away. Seems like it was yesterday, when it was 6 1/2 mos. Fishing hasn't been much for me, this spring, mainly because my buddy's pond got froze out this winter. Now that planting season is over, it's time to roll out the camping gear I bought, set it up and give it a test run. Going on a couple camp outs, next fall, in pursuit of organic limb chickens! Hope Woody is gonna have another contest, this year. Stumbled on another brick of CCI SV LR, and life is good! maddog

go down 3-4 threads below this one, and I started a thread on a great squirrel recipe. It's especially a great way to use up old squirrels that are too tough to fry.

Per my wife's Mamaw in Kentucky, I learned to coat and fry in a cast iron skillet till browned, drain off most oil, add some water, cover and steam for 30-40 min. That works for the toughest squirrels I ever had. Try it. Jay

Down here in Kentucky we just finished Spring Squirrel season, but I never hunt them in the Spring. Our regular Squirrel Season starts in Mid August & run through February. I almost always bag more Squirrels in late December; this season should be great as we're going to have a HUGE mast crop of Walnuts, Hickory, Acorns, etc.

I got the itch to hit em again too. Fishing has been tough for me and finding time even tougher. Going to be trying to do some home made tanning with some hides I saved. Looking to sew a few together and spread them across the coffee table in the man cave....if all works out well.
Right now I'm picking raspberries with blackberries coming next month. All this rain should make the black berries pop....not sure what it is doing for turkey young. Big population dip here.
Won't be long.
CCI ammo, doesn't they go a little more than twice the speed of normal 22 LR?

CCI ammo, doesn't they go a little more than twice the speed of normal 22 LR? Our Squirrel season opens on August 16th, been seeing lots of Gray Squirrels with some Fox Squirrel sightings. Our Blackberries are just starting to ripen and our Red Raspberries won't ripen until next month. Seems to be a lot of them this year, but we REALLY need some rainfall down where I live, as it's becoming very dry. I've seen two Turkey Hens with one having nine Poults , the other Hen has seven. Our turkey population has increased over the past few years. If you are using CCI brand .22 Magnum ammunition; then yes it has twice the velocity of a .22 LR. Hi-velocity. CCI's .22 LR shells have about the same velocity as other brands of .22 LR ammunition.

The CCI ammo I picked up is SV[standard velocity] box is marked 1070 fps., as opposed to HV[high velocity] rounds. It shoots great in all three of my .22 rifles, and is my go to round for squirrel hunting. BTW, i picked up two more bricks, yesterday, so i'm done buying .22 ammo for quite a while.

Back in 2007 I bought-up several boxes of 100 CCI .22 LRHP "Mini-mag" ammunition @ $3.50/box of 100, from Rural King in Evansville. So I am pretty well set, for a long time, on CCI .22 LRHP ammunition.

drs, the mini mags are great ammo. One of my buddy's uses it exclusively. The standard velocity is quieter, and most importantly very accurate in my guns. At 1070 fps, it even cycles perfectly in my 10/22. The mini mags are rated at 1235 fps.

My son showed up yesterday, and helped me set up, and seam seal the tent I bought, this winter, as well as setting up my EZ up canopy. Getting things ready for a couple camp out/squirrel hunts, this fall. My son and I, along with two friends are going to do a local campout mid Sept., then a week later i'm heading to southern IL. to the Shawnee NF for a squirrel hunt with the boys over at rimfire central. That's going to be my vacation for the year. Here's a pic of the Eureka Copper Canyon I bought, with my son seam sealing it, for me. It's tall enough for this ole geezer to stand up in, and I got a coleman deluxe cot to go with it! maddog

Just ate 2 of them for lunch, think I have a couple left. I am the keeper of all of those the 3 of us get. JW took a baseball to the head last week; spent an overnight in the hospital and he's on a bunch of restrictions - including no TV. It looks like he's going to be cleared to shoot about a week before season opens.

Went out yesterday for a final tune up on my Sportster. I was shooting on a lane, in a woods I hunt. I fired about 10 rds., and went and checked the target. Got to listening, and about 75 yds., off in the woods, there was a squirrel giving me a cussing. I listened, grinned and thought, "three and a half weeks you lil booger"..... maddog
