Well been a slow slow year. Hearing birds, seeing a few but nothing worked out. Had Bill Harmon up for 4 days hunting and on Friday afternoon I connected. We got out of the woods at 12 Noon for a bite to eat. We got back at 2pm and before I cross the tracks I always look into the alfalfa field across the R/R tracks. There was a tom in strut and a hen. So we snuck around the back side and got to my one blind on the field edge. The bird was about 300 yards away and going toward the river where they fly over to the other side. Seeing as it was not coming to our calls we decided I should take a chance and sneak along the river bank and try to cut it off. Bill just can't do any stalking like that anymore so he said "Go for it boy" Well after about a 500 yard stalk along a thick river bottom edge I got close. Came up to look to see and the hen was just 20 feet from me walking into the field. I sat there knowing the tom would want to come back out nad he did. Let it fly at about 45 yards and stoned him. However what I did not realize is that my adjustable stock had gotten closed all the way shut and I was closer to the scope then I need be. So shooting a 3.5" shell and being closer to the scope is not a good combo... yep... scoped myself good. Here is the bird and picture of the forehead damage

Congrats on the bird. Sorry to hear about the scoped forehead. Done that with a small caliber rifle, hurt then, can't imagine 12 ga. Tough stuff!

That's a scar any turkey hunter would be proud of. Well done.

I was hoping the battle scar was on the turkey; not on you!
