Since we got off topic and were talking about places to eat in the "Challenger Disaster" thread, I wanted to start a new one. Today we are taking a ride to Portillo's in Merrillville, NW corner of IN. They are an old time place from Chicago, started by a guy in the 60's I think I read from a trailer as a hotdog stand, but have grown into an awesome place, now famous for their Italian beef, hot dogs, and burgers. Simply the best Italian beef we ever had! Melt in your mouth good. Definitely worth the ride, and I'll post up the results later when we get back. www.portillos.com/Jay

For me, it's hard to beat Redamak's, New Buffalo, Michigan and their famous Working Person's Special! www.redamaks.com/site/history.htmSo many memories made here! Probably had a little bit to do with the fact that Michigan didn't raise their drinking age until the end of 1978. And it was soooo close to LaPorte! But if you go...they won't open until March 1st...BRING CASH! No cards accepted the last I knew!

A big on Redamak's! Well we went to Portillo's Saturday and they did not disappoint. They strive for quick service without hurrying you along. There was 25+ people ahead of us in line and we placed the order in 5-10min. Our order # was 132 and they were serving #99 when we got there. But we had our food in 10min tops. Nice to see good organized service. Hard to come by nowadays. We had their Italian beef with hot peppers and a couple hot dogs. All I can say is simply the best!!! We'll try to stop over that way a little more often now and give them our business. We stopped by Gander Mtn afterwards, and were back in the truck in under 10min. Same story, need not say more. Jay

BBQ Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson Ga. I eat there often, it is amazing!! I also like the fried chicken at Buckner's. My best friend lives in Jackson, I visit him several times a year. I am beginning to like the warm Southern climate the older I get.

Pappy's BBQ in Brazil, IN. As good as you will find anywhere.
Anybody from the Terre Haute area might remember Big Shoe's BBQ, closed a few years back. Big Shoe was a very large, very kind black gent that operated a little place in a poor neighborhood. He had a pit out back where he cooked or smoked everything over hickory. I have never had any BBQ that good before or since. It was a landmark for ages.
Anybody remember it?

Well I think the Redamaks is good,, but over-rated!! Ketchup pickle and onion only!! No other choices just doesn't sit good with me!!! But they still do pack'em in up there,, that place always has a line out the door!!! If you like Mexican,, then try Rio's on the other side of town,, you wont be disappointed!!! Any of you fellas ever been to Bill's Steak House in Sturgis? Now them are the BOMB steaks!!! And the prices are 2nd to none also!! They always have some sorta good deal going on!!

My Thai Cafe in Bloomington. The drunken man fried rice is outstanding.
Goosepond Pizza in Linton. For my money it is the best pizza around.
Wee Willie's in Ellettsville. The place is nothing fancy, but their burger is pretty darn good.
