I remember thinking about all the things I had smelled on stand a few days ago Cigarette smoke Hickory fire wood My scent free rubber boots Hash browns And deer..... A spike had walked underneath me and froze for a few minutes when he picked up my ground scent. I became aware of my abilities several years ago elk hunting. As you might assume, elk smell much stronger than deer. I am sure my buddies have rolled there eyes when walking in I tell them I've scented a deer. Today is however the first day I e ver recalling getting a deer whiff being conscious about and responding by standing up with a heightened since of preperation. As I looked around I glimpsed the back side of a 6 pt at about 45 yds. Hey if deer can do it why not me? or anyone else?

I was walking in a wildlife refuge last weekend in a no hunting zone, I swear I smelled something like doe in heat. Walked past it, turned around and went back to it and smelled again. I got the buddy I was with to smell it and he agreed. First for me!

I've gotten to where I like the smell of deer urine.
I have a big nose, but not a big sense of smell.

Agreed, Deer have a very distinct odor that once you train yourself to recognize it will come in handy. When I am blood trailing a Deer I always stop periodically to look around and take in the odors around me. On a couple of occasions, I have actually been able to smell the Deer before locating it visually.

A rutting buck is very easy to smell. Can't say i've every smelled one coming while in a tree stand. Mostly walking into stand's or downwind of a scrape. But yes they do smell for sure.

Yup! Smelled em many times! Especially when they are wet &/or in the peak of rutting activities.I have also followed the scent of doe & buck urine to very active primary scraps when conditions are right from down-wind.

No doubt you can smell them; especially during the rut.
