Was told by a guy last night at Hovey Lake that its illegal to have lock on stands or ladder stands on public property over night. Is there truth to this?

I have never been to hovey lake. Yet I was reading the rules just yesterday for another state property and rules stated hang on stands could be left sept 1 to january 15. They must be tagged with your name, phone number, address. Cannot dig more than 1/2 inch into tree and no tree spikes. Whoever tokd you this may just be trying to deter you from hunting in "there" area.

I heard that you can have your name and contact info on your stand, and you can leave them up. That is not to say that someone will not walk off with them. I know guys who have had their stands stolen down there. You may want to call Hovey lake and ask them , but I am pretty sure you can put them up at a certain time of the year, and have to take them down, but you find someone up there in it. Best to call Hovey lake and ask them about it.

Just because you hang a lock on stands or ladder stands on public property doesn't reserve you that area for the year....

Could not agree more with you greghopper. First come, first serve daily. I have several spots for this exact reason.
