I saw this listed on Armslist last Friday and drove 150 miles south yesterday and picked it up. Sighted her in today and am very pleased with her. It is a .358 WSSM, it is built on a Winchester Model 70 action, has a 24" Shilen match bbl and a gray laminate outback stock. I think it is a sharp looking rifle and appears to be a tack driver if I do my part.

Nice. What's something like that run? (If you don't mind sharing)

I added the bi-pod and sling. The rifle, scope , (Simmons 3-9x44 master series), and 50 rounds of ammo, set me back $1000.00. Not cheep by any means but they say it is potentially a 300 yd rifle.

Is thw WSSM case length short enough to be Indiana legal?
If so, I think it's a little nuts that a 300 yard gun is legal but a 100 yard 30/30 isn't.

I think that is a pretty good deal for $1K. Did you get it from a custom gun builder or an individual?

He had built it for his wife to hunt with. He said he recently went to a gun show and spent $3500.00 and needed to sell it to get his bank account back in shape. He and his wife hunt out of the same stands so he figured he could get by with on rifle. He said that he had built several of these and he will reload for the people that purchased his rifles. So in short I guess you could call his a custom gun builder. He told me he sold it to me for what he had in it.

Firstwd, yes it is a legal Indiana round. It was legal before they went to 1.8" long.

Very nice looking rifle and the price is in line. I would probably do a scope upgrade, although time is running out for this season. I do agree that the lever gun type rounds should be included as well. 35Rem, 30-30, 444, 45-70, 32Special etc. Just hard to write it so you get just those kind of rounds. (heck I'd be OK with opening it up like KY)

I can see why my 30-06 isn't legal here, but figured that a .358 WSSM would be as well. Even my 300 blackout is too long. My CX4 Beretta .40 is too short; I'd love to use it. I won't have a shot over 50yds anyway. I'd just like to kill something with a big rifle.

Congratulations schall! It's a nice looking gun. A man can always use at least one more gun.

The ONLY reason that I haven't bought a .358 wildcat is that I've got a gut feeling that high-powered rifles will be legalized for deer here in Indiana in the next few years, and I don't want to be stuck with an oddball caliber that no one would want if everything were legalized. That said, that is a very beautiful rifle! I hope that you can score with it this season.
Jon Snow, the 300 AAC Blackout brass easily meets the criteria for deer hunting in a rifle. It's the bullet less than .357" that kills it. I am building a .300 BLK pistol for deer. I'm only waiting on the barrel to arrive to complete it, and it supposedly shipped last Thursday.

Hi M4, I love my 300BO, but I thought the round was too long. I think the 110 V-max that I shoot are 2.065"; is this too long? I think we'll see this gun increase in popularity. The ammo is hard to get for a AR15 round, and relatively pricey. Please post a photo of it when you get it together; I'd love to see it. Yes, the velocity of this round makes for a good kill spread ...they say. I've not killed anything with it. I'd much rather use this gun than my "kick like a horse" Mossberg.

Got to love WSSM's. I really wish the powers that be would just legalize rest of the rifle cartridges.

Brass cannot be longer than 1.800" AND the bullet diameter has to be larger than .357. I think the same thing too, plus I can reach out even further with my .45 cal Savage Muzzleloader. Going to chrono the load this year. 2" high at 100, dead on at 200, 6" low at 300. 195g Barnes bullet.

Have killed six deer with the .358 wssm at 1.625 length. Absolutely hammers deer. I use the 200 grain Barnes ttsx at 2640 f/s. Longest shot was 275 yards. All one shot kills.
