Unsuccessful for the first hunt at Versailles, successful for the second. It surprises me, but it is what it is.
Anybody else get Versailles? My information doesn't show which zone. I shall call the office, hopefully before everybody else does.

I got Clifty Falls state park(archery) and Versailles State Park Late reduction. It did not give me the zone either for Versailles.

I got Clifty Falls state park(archery) and Versailles State Park Late reduction. It did not give me the zone either for Versailles. They were talking a couple years ago about letting people pick their own area. I wonder if they got it changed to go that way?

I was drawn for Brown County area 5 for Dec 2 and 3. What do you guy think of BC?
I was happy to find out the deer do not count against your normal hunting numbers. So if you get a chance to drop a buck, you can still get your normal season buck.

Did the late hunt at BC 3-4 years ago; it wasn't all that good. Seems to me success rate was 20-25%, but that's going from a poor memory.

The late hunts are always more slow than the early hunts. This will be the first time for me to do both hunts. I've hunted Brown County 4 different times now. It's nice because it's only a short drive from home for me. There are plenty of deer in there, but it's a really big place. All the other hunters help to push the deer around, so find a spot and stay there as long as possible.

My dad and I got drawn for Tippecanoe River for the early hunt. We have hunted there 2 of the last 3 years and I have harvested 5. Last year my dad got 2 as well, its nice to know where the deer are so you don't have to scout . Also to my pleasant surprise, we got drawn for the late hunt at Potato Creek I have never been there before so I am looking forward to hitting the ground soon, it's fun to hunt new ground always exciting .

Tis sounds crazy, but it seems our success is always better on second days of both hunts and especially good on the late hunt. We've got some tried and true areas in each zone we like to hit and usually harvest at least 1 between us. We had a younger guy walk in with us last year at Versailles who killed two right at legal shooting time. It took him until almost 2pm to get them out. One reason we always try to have a buddy or two near by.

Unsuccessful - Prophetstown early hunt
Successful. - Shades late hunt - cant wait!
Successful for Atterbury for 12/01/13 - I'm passing on this to go to the IU vs Purdue FB game. I wish they would post the hunt dates on the draw sign up.

I recieved an email from the DNR about the Versailles State park hunt.. "Note to those successfully drawn for deer reductions at Versailles State Park, the park is not assigning areas in 2013. You may hunt where you wish. If you have questions, contact the park at (812) 689-6424. "

JB is correct... but the park in Versailles really doesn't have an answer on how the assignments will actually go.. They are being bombarded by calls... my suggestion is to wait a week or so until they get a game plan together before calling them.

I told my dad about the email from Versailles and he was shocked as i was. If it is as stated, it will be one Giant mess. I've got areas in all 3 zones I like to hunt, but this open door policy could hurt it. Wonder if they will maybe count as guys check in at the gate that morning and fill zones that way? I could foresee some major conflicts amongst guys if it is left as the email stated.

It won't be that big of a problem, anyway it wasn't at Potato Creek. They had that park divided into 3 areas up until about 5 years ago then did away with them like Versailles. People still seem to spread out pretty even.

The property manager was talking several years ago about finding a way to let people pick their zones. His thought was adding a section to the registration form for people to put the first and second zone choice on the registration. The reason was because the high number of hunters that did not show up because they did not want to hunt the zone they were chosen for. I see this as a trial to see if more hunters will show if they get to choose where they get to hunt. Personally, I like it. I have a place I go that I have only seen 3 hunters in 4 years. To me, this just means I won't have to worry about that number getting higher. Then again, I've been wrong before. Time will tell.
