Just aquired a Winchester Model 94 in .45 Colt last night on a trade, and was wondering if anyone else out there is using one and what they are shooting. I do not have any handloading equipment or experience, so right now I'm just looking at buying a box or 2 for occasional deer or hog hunting use.
I see Hornady has their Leverevolution ammo, which I shoot out of my .357 Mag and .30-30 and like, in 225 gr bullet weights. The advertised velocity out of a rifle is only 1000 fps though.
Buffalo Bore has a cartridge with a 325 gr bullet, advertised with a velocity of 1325 fps out of a 7.5" test barrel (I wonder how fast this would shoot out of my rifle). They also have a .45 Colt "Deer Grenade", a 260 gr bullet with an advertised velocity of 1890 fps out of a 20" barrel (I'm currently leaning towards this cartridge). Normally I would buy and try both, but at $40 + shipping for a box of 20, that isn't an option.
I know that all of these loads will do the job at close range, but was wondering what the consensus would be (if any) on the best load before spending my hard earned money.

Thanks, I hadn't looked at any of the Cor-Bon ammo yet. I have found that many of the offerings for .45 Colt are pretty weak.. does the P+ stand for high pressure then (or high performance)? I've been seeing it in the hotter Buffalo Bore ammo.

I believe the +P designation applies to high pressure loads (higher pressure than what has been standard for many years for that cartridge). These loads will also typically give higher velocities for the same bullet type and weight in that particular cartridge.
