Wasn't going to go this morning, but decided to give it a go for an hour or so around 9. Nothing stirring at all. Going out in the morning if I don't fish too late tonight.

Woody. I think we have decided on a team name for team 3. It is going to be "Team Falling Nuts" Thanks. It was a fun morning in the woods. I got there just after 7 and finished up around 10. I saw several but I just couldn't seem to hit them. Here is the pic. Mike Team Falling Nuts is it... Yes sir! ;-)

Who else has blacks around the state??? There are a bunch of black squirrels around Alexandria. The ones there are Fox squirrels...there are no grays in that area at all that Ive ever seen or heard of. They started showing up back in the 80s when I was a teen. People said someone brought some down from Michigan. They spread that genetic trait real quick and they were all over town in a short time. Now some are two-toned with black bodies and reddish brown tails. I may have to go up to my dad's woods and see if I can get one. Pretty cool looking!

And two again this AM for team 2. Went to a woods I haven't been in in over 40 years. HOT? oh my. I was later than normal and the canopy is heavy in the lower level trees. Had my first **MISS**, dagnabit. Off hand, half a head, "hope shot" that I shouldn't have taken but it was annoying me after 40 minutes of trying to get a shot. LOL! No real accurate count on what I saw in trees further away but it was more than a dozen. Guess I'll go back there :-) Tried to get my "squirrel hanger" (literally a loop from a clothes hanger) that I made to hook on my belt to hold squirrels but I cut off the top part. God Bless!

God Bless! this is the same problem ive been running into, man its HARD to get a good shot when the trees are this thick! Good job though!

Hit the pines behind the house this morning and didn't see any where I was sitting but had heard one earlier. I stalked down a row of trees and spotted her way in the tops about 50 yards away. Passed on several marginal shots through some pine needles as I didn't want to have to try to find her in all the underbrush and poison ivy. Finally got a clear head shot 3 trees away while she was eating a pine cone. Coming back to the house I had another 10 feet up an oak, but my garage was behind the squirrel so I will wait for another opportunity lol.

I am having issues posting pics. But I got another one today. Actually shot 2 but one actually got away. So I would say only one counts. If I could figure out how to post the pics there saved on my phone.

Decided to take a walk to the back forty and see if there was anything going on there. The ditch banks are wooded and usually hold a population. This guy was 20 feet below a nest upside down looking at me. Was kind enough to fall in the poison ivy lol. Puts me into double digits on the season.

Finally got past two in an outing but wow. HAD TO WORK FOR THE LAST ONE. 2 by 7:45. Not another in sight till 10. The door slammed shut at 8 AM. HOT! I'm too old to sweat like this! Three for team 2 this morning. God Bless PS. Same woods as yesterday. Yesterday AM, local barometric pressure was climbing. I saw over a dozen by 9 AM or so. Nuts / cuttings dropping in several places at once (which way do I go...which way do I go?, LOL) Today, lower but steady pressures. I saw 5, four of which was before 8. Found ONE by sound of cuttings dropping. Movement of the squirrels I saw was very limited, unlike yesterday when they were hopping from tree to tree. In 40 minutes, one moved less than 6 feet in the tree and did NOT act like it had seen me before shooting it. JUST INFO.....for those that wonder. Nothing is carved in stone IMHO but I do compare stats. Storm forecast for tonight. Might hit the woods an hour before dark, just for info on how they are moving then AND because I won't go in the AM if storming. :-)

I agree with the cooler temps, just don't tell my garden. Calling for possible rain tonight and tomorrow. If this holds true, squirrels should be on the move. Plan is to be out there first light tomorrow.
