I've never done one of these hunts before, but I was thinking about applying. If you are drawn for one of the hunts can you use the weapon of your choice? I like to stick with my bow, but I noticed only a couple of the parks had (archery) behind them. Same with Big Oaks and Crane, can you use a bow or do they require you to use a firearm?

You can use the bow. I did Brown Co. several years ago, it was the second hunt and I wouldn't bother with the late hunt again. Looking at the numbers from previous hunts the first day of the first hunt is when you want to do it.

There have been some huge bucks coming off of Crane every year. I'm a contractor there and used to be able to hunt there all archery season. New rules for this year, however, and only government employees and dependents can hunt, EXCEPT on the public firearms hunts (major bummer).
You can bowhunt during the public gunhunt, but you only have 1 day to hunt and very little time to scout. Last year, at least, you could only gunhunt with a shotgun or muzzleloader on base... no rifles. You also must register your gun at the gate with security. They give you an arrival time you must keep, which may be as early as 12:30 am. You are assigned a hunt area you may not stray out of unless trailing a wounded deer.
It was great when I could bowhunt on base... Most of 66,000 acres with EXTREMELY light hunting pressure... But I'm not even gonna mess with the gunhunt this year, it is just too much of a hassle for me (and I work there).
That said, you may go and shoot a booner... then all the hassle would have been worth it. 1 guy in my building killed a 199 gross 2 years ago, and a girl I work with killed a 173 w/a 13" double drop tine last year (both during bow season though).
