Got back last night just in time for Mom's day! Spent 2 full, nearly sunup to sundown days and 1/2 a day yesterday on the lake. Thanks to whitetail1 and hightcottonguide for the invite, it was a great time. Fishing the lake was great but the catching left a little to be desired. My partner and I caught fish everyday, majority being largemouth, then smallies then northern pike and we both caught a couple of muskies. Also caught a fair share of rock bass and some drum. The half day yesterday was the best day for me, very heavy overcast. With the cold front that came in Friday eve, we were in no hurry to get on the lake yesterday. My first cast yesterday was with a small crankbait that started out with a loose spool of line. As I was pulling out the line I heard a splash and realized that a bass had grabbed my crankbait. I couldn't get my act together quick enough to hook that fish but the fact that that fish hit my crankbait while it was just sitting there gave me the idea to tie on a zara spook. Two cast later I had my first top water fish of the year. I spent the next 4 hours throwing the spook and catching bass. Just one of the typical smallies that ate the spook yesterday. Definitely plan to return to LSC and hopefully the next time I will hit it right.

Glad you had a good time Mark. Sorry the fishing wasn't all that great on this trip. We had fun, but it definitely wasn't a typical St. Clair trip on both numbers and size. I think we may have been there a week or two early this year. We struggled on Friday but finally found some fish on Saturday (thanks to HCG and Ronnie), same area you were in and a little further south. Got up to real heavy winds Sunday morning and just decided to call it a trip and head home.

Glad you came up Mark! I guess I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to St. Clair because I had just as much fun when it came to casting clousers and decievers on the flyrod...even if only on largemouth! There's just something wild and crazy to me with a 9' flyrod doubled over! I agree the numbers weren't like last year, but Ronnie and I had some great action. Especially once the wind and the rollers started coming in on Saturday afternoon and the bite was on. Dark clouds to the west but we just had to cast one more time! We caught a few 5 lbers and Ronnie boated his best 6+ lber here on a tube: We also had success on the jerkbaits, but the tubes and senkos from watermelon to green punkin (mostly senkos in my case as shown here) were surely the ticket: I think we all will be lobbying for a trip back in a few weeks if it could work out! On the way home yesterday, Ronnie said he feels the calling to Pastor a church...on Lake St. Clair...where we minister to the smallies! Everyone is welcome! Just a few requirements: Got to go to church everyday you possibly can and tithes and offerings are welcome in the form of tubes, senkos, spooks, jerkbaits, chatterbaits...!!!

I hear ya on the return in a couple of weeks. I didn't say anything to the wife yesterday as it was Mom's day but it sure was in my mind a quite a bit. Not sure how she would take me going back again real soon but I am going to send it up the flag pole for a salute. I did some looking around on hotels and found a Comfort Inn that is a more reasonable price wise and only 10 minutes further away from the lake. I drove back down through Ohio on a new stretch of highway 24 ( I think) and it was pretty easy driving and cut a half hour of time out too.

Good to hear you guys had fun and caught some fish! I'm heading up there in the morning.I was getting nervous about the weather, but this is the only time I can make it up there.I have a feeling things will still be slow but your report at least gives me hope that fish are there. Were you guys fishing Sang area or the mile roads?

I fished both areas, and I believe the other guys on the trip did the same. The mile roads were much more productive than SANG for me. Usually, SANG is one of my favorite areas, but we didn't find many fish there. You could go north of the base and catch all of the largemouth that you wanted, but we weren't there for largemouth.

I'm staying in the Selfridge area so I'm hoping the fishing gets better there. If not I will make the run down to the mile roads, weather permiting.I'm not really interested in fishing for LM either.I make the 5hr drive for the smallies! I will hopefully have a good report to post in a couple days. Thanks for the info.

If you don't want to make the run by boat, drive down to the Crocker launch. Takes all of 15 minutes from Selfridge and you are smack dab in between the 400 club / Mile roads and Metro. If there is a strong east wind this ramp might not be a good choice as it is open to the main lake. The Sportsman Direct tackle shop is half block south of the entrance to Crocker, very nicely stocked shop for the bass fisherman.
