Well, been fighting this back issues for 10 years. on again and off again, but it seems to have started taking its toll. Back pain and now whole left leg is numb and tingling, and have no feeling in it. So maybe turkey is out, been on muscle relaxers and pain pills, steroids, but that is just putting on the weight. Was really looking forward to taking my boys out and trying to get our first turkey. But just walking puts pressure on it. But the way it is going , getting worse by the day, will try and get in to see the doctor on Thursday, and see if they can get me to a specialist. Just from what I am reading and experiencing, I have a pinched left sciatic nerve, which has been an issue, but has gotten worse the last 3 mos. Constant pain and numbness really stinks, I can actually pinch my leg hard and not feel anything. I guess it is time for me to go to someone who can maybe help me out.

An occasional trip to the Chiropractor keeps my sciatic nerve problems in check.

That leg issue is sciatica for sure. When mine is acting up that is just what it is like.
I have three ruptured discs with one pressing on the sciatic nerve. My life hasn't been the same since age 21, so I feel your pain. The pain isn't terrible all the time, but certain activities are always off the table. The stiffness and limited mobility make all things less enjoyable, including hunting. Also, you feel in constant danger of "throwing it out."
After ten years you could quite possibly be looking at spondylosis, or degenerative arthritis of the spine as well as a disc issue. Spinal stenosis is also a concern. If you have not already had an MRI, you need one, and you need a neurologist to read it. X-rays are practically worthless for anything besides very obvious bone issues, and any doctor that tells you otherwise is an idiot, no matter how many letters follow their name.
Good luck, and take care of yourself.

Duckmaster, it always seems you get this at the worst times, didn't you have issues this year before deer season or was it last year? In any case I wish you the best I know how even getting a cold or a stubbed toe can screw up your whole week much less back problems I truly wish I could help you in some way and I hope you can find some sort of solution to this issue I don't know if you are a religios man and by many standards neither am I but I will pray for your back to get better good luck.

My sciatica was so bad my wife had to help me put on my pants and socks.
I had two steroid epidural shots and I am at least 90% better. It flares a little sometimes but it is not all that bad anymore.
Tri-State Orthopedics did it for me..

I can only wish my wife would see a chiro, I had her going for awhile, but the first chance she got she bailed on it and went back to Lortab for her back pain. Muleyheaded woman...

Tried inversion?
I have never had that much trouble with mine. Some long ago, but managed to exercise my way out of it (after resting it long enough to make that possible) with lots of regular sit-ups and twisting to strengthen core and maintain flexibility.
But have heard of good results from several people at work and a couple in the family who used the inversion with some regularity.
The wife tried it when hers was acting up and got a little relief. Probably would have gotten more, but couldn't get her to continue with it. Wonder is she's related to Kevin's Mrs.?

I've said it here before but I had surgery on a herniated disc and I would do it again in a hearbeat. Results have been great for over 3 years. Maybe my situation was different but I had the pain down the leg. I had 4-5 epidural shots before surgery and they didn't do much for me.l

Funny that you should mention that, I have an inversion table which I call my "Bat Board". When my lumbar starts to stiffen and ache I do a few minutes on it and the pain usually vanishes for awhile. Wifey won't get on it at all, claims she's afraid that she'll get stuck and won't be able to right herself. When I point out that I'll be right there beside her in case she can't get upright she just finds another excuse to avoid it. Muleyheaded woman...

I may look into that. I think I am getting a lumbar injection to help out, but I have been reading up on the tables. Hope they make one for a big guy like me.

You know DUCK it seems like you have been having this conversation at least once sometimes twice a year for the past few years. One would think with all the activities you have missed out on or been limited in what you could do that by now you would have gotten this problem resolved correctly.

Well, nuro surgeon told me I have some permanant nerve damage to the left sciatic nerve, with arthritis around the facet joint. Surgery is out for the nerve, pain meds and injections for the flair ups. Looking into a couple more things, but said that the nerve has some damage to it which is causing it to flair up so much and so bad each time it does. Looking into an inversion table and possible nerve blocks to see if that helps any.

If surgery is out then find a good pain management clinic. h.h.

I lived with back issues for many years. I ate muscle relaxers and pain pills like they were jelly beans. I was constantly getting epidurals and trigger point injections regularly for years. I even lost a job due to the severity of my physical limitations... Then I bought and inversion table and started using it every day. Over time I started getting better and now I have not been to the back doctor, taken a pill, or even had a shot in several years. Sure, I get down in the back maybe once or twice a year for a few days but I'm no longer living in pain every day like I was. The inversion table was a game changer for me!! Now, I'm as mobile as any other young guy! ;D

So how long do you stay on it? and do you have to wear anything after you have been on it? I have reading alot about them and really looking into one of those.
