I just purchased a new nikon monarch 4-16x42mm scope and i now need scope rings. I am debating on either a set of DNZ or Leupold Dovetail rings. Anyone have any suggestions on which one you like more.

I put Leupold Dual Dovetails on everything that I can. If for some reason they don't make them for that particular gun, I'll use Burris Signature Z rings.

I can testify to the effectiveness of the Burris Signature rings. (Not Zee rings). To really install a scope correctly with other models of rings, they should be lapped in. This maximizes the amount of surface area of the ring touching the scope tube and minimizes the misalignment of the rings. This is one sure way of ensuring the scope will not move in the ring and also prevents damage to the scope tube. The design of the Burris Signature series eliminates the need to lap the rings. Also, the inserts allow coarse tuning of the scope zero.

45shooter, I agree. I thought the Zee rings were the ones with the Posi-Align inserts, but it looks like all of them have it. The Posi-Align insert system is the one that I was trying to refer to as well.
I use the dual dovetail whenever possible because I've had ring walking issues on a few guns. Never with the dual dovetail. The Posi-Align inserts have come in handy a few times when something was mis-aligned. Latest culprit was a 10/22. Ran out of "up" adjustment in the Leupy scope to get a 25 yd zero, but switching to the Posi-Align rings fixed the problem.

You did not mention the gun? I have a DNZ one piece unit on an Encore barrel and it works nice. I have a steel TPS base and steel TPS rings on a Remington 700 tactical 308 and they are great. I have aluminum Burris Tactical rings on a Kimber LPT 223 which came with a base and they hold a Nikon just like you bought just fine. I also have Leopold, Warne, and Weaver Tactical rings on other guns. There are a lot of good rings and bases. That said I check alignment and lap rings, some more than others depends on the first few self imposed steps, if the rings line up and the surfaces appear even after a few passes I stop working - trust but verify. Match the rings to the application.
