I have contacted Senator Dan Coats twice concerning Anti gun legislation. The reply I received today was clearly pro-gun and specific.
"I will not support any legislation or broader effort that would serve to undermine the Second Amendment. I am a proud supporter of gun rights and will oppose any gun control initiative that infringes on the ownership rights for responsible, law abiding citizens. I am strongly opposed to proposals such as Senator Diane Feinstein's bill to impose an assault weapons ban and efforts by the Executive Branch to implement controls solely by executive action."

He's changed his tune somewhat. The email then snail mail response I received stated something to the sort of having a discussion blah blah blah. The reply I sent back may have gotten me on some watch list I dunno.

The letter I received yesterday was "not" clear at all. Left me with the conclusion that he didn't want to make a total commitment.

He was against the 1994 AWB until he was for it. Hopefully when it comes time to vote he will stand up for Hoosiers and their God given rights.

Back in '68, I somehow got on both lists for Birch Bayh's campaign literature, and received both the letter that was intended for pro-2A voters and the other one. They were similar in appearance but printed in different ink colors, I assume to prevent errors by his envelope stuffers who couldn't read.
One, IIRC the blue-ink one, told of his support for the Second Amendment and the other explained his support for the GCA that he had voted for that year.
It's kind of a tradition on both sides of the aisle. Tell 'em what you think they want to hear. First rule of politics, some say.
In any case, trust nothing they say or that their campaign literature says. Pay attention only to their votes. The rest is window dressing....any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.

I helped vote him out after his 1994 vote without the internet. Now I own property at a corner of two state highways with a billboard and I'll do it again if he leans the same way. History repeats itself.

When Coats was running for his senate seat he was interviewed on a number of occasions on the Gregg Garrison show. WIBC from 9-noon daily. Mr. Garrison who is extremely pro gun directly asked Coats about his vote in support of the 94 AWB. Coats stated that he supported it only to support the overall anticrime bill the AWB was attached to. He stated that he learned from his mistake and would in no way support another AWB. It looks as if we will soon see if he really learned his lesson. I'd about guarantee that our other esteemed Indiana senator will rubber stamp anything his hero Zero asks for. Of course Luger would have been the first RINO to reach across the isle on this one, so we didn't lose much.
