Lets discuss this ....
My kids go to a school that already has a Sheriffs Deputy on the grounds during school hours. He sits in his car in the parking lot.
If a bad guy were to decide to do a bad deed the deputy would make an easy first target.
The only way an "armed guard" of any kind would work is this:
1. All access to the building is restricted to a single point. That does not mean just locked doors .... that means locked and forced entry "proofed" doors and windows.
2. Armed guard is stationed at the single point of entrance and is behind a bullet proof enclosure to screen and approve each person before entry.
Unless something along those lines are done having an armed guard does nothing but make a false sense of security. If its a false sense of security why spend the money?

No amount of money or effort will stop a crazy person who is willing to die from doing something crazy.

Hopefully the thought of knowing someone is inside with a firearm to shoot back would be enough to keep a whacko from shooting up a school again. That extra sense of security these gunman are getting by knowing there aren't any guns in the school sure isn't helping our cause either is it? Do you know if there was an officer on duty in Newtown?
Remember the Aurora Colorado shooting? That guy had 7 movie theaters within 20 minutes of his residence. The one he chose to go and start his shooting rampage in just so happened to be the only one of the seven that was a "gun-free zone". Coincidence? I'm gonna go with not likely.

Let those with a valid LTCH carry and let the world know "some" teachers might be armed .... would be just as effective, if not more so, and would not cost $10M in tax payer monies.
