You may have a defective or broken firing pin. I recommend a thorough cleaning and inspection of the firing pin assembly. Assuming all is as it should be with the pin, hammer, spring, etc., a cleaning may cure it.
I have heard of guys inserting thin shims into the primer pocket, to create a "crush-fit" when the action is closed. This makes sure the primer is held firmly and helps with blow-by from what I've read. It should help with light primer strikes as well. You can probably google "CVA primer shim" and find more info.
Also, I know that some primers are longer than others. A different brand of primer may help.

Sounds like a definite candidate for a return to CVA.

NO. Sounds like a lemon. I'd get on the horn to CVA customer service and send it back.

That's what I call service. I like to hear that. I need a nice muzzleloader, but have no idea what to get. I do like nice stuff and have plenty of stuff to trade.
