It is 7am here at the Versailles hunt and I have already heard 7 shots. Shooting time does not start until 7:30. Idiots! I hope they get caught. Just a question not being smart have never hunted a park hunt. Is there a rule you can't shoot before 7:30? The sun rise chart says sun up at 7:30 today so wouldn't it be okay to shoot after 7? BB

I want to go to these hunts but these are the things that scare me... Stupid people sitting by people like that. Is it really that packed in these hunts? Or are people just to lazy to get to a place that's just them? BB From my experience, some of the people that hunt these park hunts ONLY scout one area, if you beat them to that area, they have NO clue on where else to go. I also believe that those people (the one spot scouters) dont have good enough woodsmanship skills to adjust try and go somewhere else... So they SIT down where they know... When I hunt state parks, I try to get as far away from roads as possible, ALOT of hunters only get a few hundred yards from their trucks.... I think they are"scared" of getting lost, to lazy walk very far and afraid of the work involved in getting a deer or two out later...

I've only hunted 1 state park hunt, that was Harmonie about 3yrs ago. It was a ZOO!
Maybe it was my fault for going in blind but I was one of the first trucks in line and parked at the first parking lot and I still had to zig zag my way through the woods avoiding flashlights. When the sun came up I had a hunted to my left and right and several walking by throughout the morning. I sat til 11am and said screw it but got lucky and had an 8pt stop and check me out on my way to the truck. I was actually nervous about shooting the deer just knowing how many people were around and not knowing where anyone was.
I left with that buck and did not return for the second day or the second hunt I was also drawn for.
Edit; guess I should have read the post before mine before I admitted my lack of woodsmanship skills and laziness…

I hunted Versailles several years ago, will never ever never go back. I was scared for my life, guys will shoot anything and everything that moves. We were afraid to walk out and leave. Waited for the guy on the 4 wheeler to come by and walked out with him by 10am. Very scary stuff.

Rolling out what do you mean? And thanks metamorahunter. Like I said wasn't trying to be a butt just figured it must be in the rules for the park. Good rules that way you should know exactly what your shooting at... I think if I went in to my stand at a park hunt I would carry my 1,000,000 whatt spot light!!! LOL

I can't see anyone from here, but there have been several shot close to me. I could hear a couple if shot deer run and crash. LOTS of deer have been killed here today, from the sounds of it.

I have hunted Versailles several years and have not seen the "zoo" either. I did see several hunter pass me the one year I was in the "Blue" zone, but once everybody got to their spot I didn't see another hunter until heading out. Since I started hunting the "Orange" zone I've only seen one other hunter that wasn't part of my group.

Got skunked today. My buddy saw one small buck. I heard lots if shots, some pretty close. Did not see another hunter while hunting. Left at about 2:30 and stopped by the check station. They had checked in 60 deer to that point. There was a pretty good 10 pointer hanging there.

They must have cut down the number of hunters in the zones. We were in the blue zone and couldnt move due to hunters all around us. "zoo" is putting it lightly. I have never seen so many people in one area. We went to the pick up area to check out the deer taken, and they were shot in the head, butt, legs or just plumb full of holes. This was over 16 yrs ago. Maybe its changed.

I was in my stand at turkey run by about 6:15. I was a good ways back in there. I hadn't previously scouted, but found it funny that the first place I break off the main trail and look for a tree I'm getting ready to take my climber off my back and then I see someone else's climber sitting on a tree. The hunter wasn't there yet, but I figured soon would be so I went further down the trail. Once I was finally set up all was quiet and I could hear some deer moving around on the hill behind me until three or four guys come walking from behind me and two of them climbed trees near me. I could see their lights the whole time and was flashing them, but they continued to just climb. Once it was daylight I never could see them. I know they were close, but I just couldn't see them. It worried me because if a deer came between us I didn't want them shooting my way. I stayed up until about noon and called it quits after not seeing a single deer. I talked to and heard 5 other guys say they didn't even see a deer either. There was only one deer being checked in when I was leaving.

I've hunted Versailles 5 times. The northern end of the orange where you access off 421 was a zoo to me. 7 people in orange all within 125 yards. The gate was locked that morning and was just daylight by the time they got it unlocked, they forgot. A long line of trucks all went in at the same time. People were running everywhere. I've never hunted Versailles where I didn't have at least 3 people within sight. Even when packing in for a long hike and sitting for the day. I gave up on that place and will let someonelse take my place. LOL. I have killed deer there though.
