I just recently purchased a .358 wssm for my encore. i put a Nikon BDC scope on it. I was told when i bought it that if i hold 2" high at 100 yds then at 200 yds it should be right in there. Well the problem im having is with the BDC when i sight it in dead on at 100 yds, when i move to my next circle which should be the 200 yd circle im am shooting 5-6" low everytime. Just wondering if anyone might have a suggestion on why this is happening.

Sounds like your .358 WSSM's bullet is running out of steam when it reaches the 200 yard mark. What load data are you using interms of powder & bullet type??

Is there a problem with sighting in for 2" high at 100 instead of dead on? I'm thinking that would get you very close at 200.

You need to run your ballistics through Nikon's Spot On program to find out what yardage values your circles will be for your specific load. They are not automatically 200, 300, 400, ...
FWIW- my load is 1/2 inch low at 200 when sighted 2.5 inches high at 100.

Just shot my gun again tonight and its all over the place. I had it shooting a 1 1/2" grouping at 200 yds. So i moved up to 100 yds and shot three times and all three shots was right at 2" high which is where it should be. So then i decided to back up to 200 yds and try it one more time just to make sure it was still good and it wasnt. i shot 4 times and three of them was close to 6" high. Checked the scope everything was tight. i cleaned the gun after every four shots and i let the barrel set and cool off. So at this point i dont really no what to try. Also i changed the scope and put on a bushnell banner 6-18 x 50

Sounds like you have a bad barrel or the trigger pull is too heavy. Get another gun for your hunting.

The solution is the dump the BDC scope. Rifle shooting is not one size fits all. There's no way a scope with circles can fit every trajectory of every caliber out there. Buy a Leupold, send it back to the factory to have turrets installed to match the load your going to shoot. You have to determine that first.

I would definitely not clean the barrel, this may cause you accuracy troubles. Most of my CF rifles group differently between a clean and fouled barrel and I will not clean a CF until my POI changes. You are making too many big changes. Did you shoot with the replacement scope too? How many rounds have you actually put down the tube now?

A clean barrel only lasts one shot normally. And POI doesn't change much. I'd stop shooting at 200 until you get it grouping at 100. If it groups there, then you have other issues with your two-hundred yard shooting. If it doesn't group at 100, there are some basic steps to take before hitting the panic button. Could be nothing wrong at all, except the scope. Circles will not allow you pin point accuracy as a set of fine cross hairs will. IOWs, circles suck. You may just need a better aiming point.

After I clean, it usually takes about 3 shots for it to settle back in to perfect zero for me. I also don't clean until I see POI not where it is supposed to be. Timex has a great point about no precise aiming point with the circle if you have it zeroed at 100 and are shooting farther (I know that is not what you posted, but be aware of that anyway). I do only shoot 2 shots with mine and let the barrel get completely cold before taking 2 more shots. And on any gun that I have ever shot, the throat area and just ahead seems to be the last part to get back to cold. Just remember, you want to sight in how you will be hunting. For me that is a fouled, cold barrel. I have heard some snipers only fire one shot from a clean, cold barrel; make an adjustment and leave. Only to come back the next day with a clean, cold barrel to take another shot and so on until they have exact zero on a clean, cold bore because that is how they will be taking their shot at their intended target.

I'm no long range shooter, so I really don't see the point of these scopes. I just sight the gun in for optimal trajectory (normally around 2-3 inches high at 100) and hunt. I've killed all my deer within 150 yds.

The scope with the B&C reticle on my 270wsm really works nicely for 400 & 500yd shooting.

I own a Ruger M-77 in .22-250 which I use to shoot groundhogs. When I first bought it several years ago it shot groups rather poorly something like 3" five shot groups at 100 yards. I had a gunsmith free float the barrel & bed the action. Also had the factory trigger replaced with a Timney adjustable trigger set at 3.5 pounds. Now that rifle will shoot < 1 MOA everytime all day long and I have shot groups at 200 yards where I could cover the group with a quarter. Also have a Leupold 4-12 power scope mounted on it. A good scope makes all the difference believe me!!

i had two of my buddies take my gun last night to shoot it. I wanted to see if they had any more luck with it then i did. They both have identical guns as i do. They called me at work today and said they had no luck at all. They said they couldnt get it to group at all. so im not sure what im going to do with it.

Maybe that barrel doesn't like that particular load, have you tried any different loads?
