I am curious to hear from the folks who have optics on the harder hitting AR setups like the .450 bushmaster, .458 Socom, .50 Beowulf, etc. How are they holding up? I guess I am significantly more concerned about the red dot options taking a beating that the rifle scopes. I am using for .450 Bushmaster as my primary deer rifle and I am looking at several different options here and I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with either or both setup.

I've used a Bushnell HoloSight on a firearm that develops 15.6 ft/sec and 34.0 ft-lb of recoil. It's literally seen 1,000's or shots without any problems.
I don't have any experience using any other "red dot" type sight on a heavy kicking firearm.
If you post the firearm weight, MV, projectile weight and weight of powder, I can figure out the recoil that you will be seeing.

I would much rather have a 1.75 - 6 variable power scope than a red dot on a long gun anyway. But that is just my preference.

Depends
If your goig to be in heavy brush and need a quick shot run your red dot, it will allow you to shoot both eyes open.
If you are going to have to take a long range accurate shot. Like down powerlines or field I would be running a scope.
I was running a Primary Arms 1X4 on my 458 and it was a perfect combination.

I ended up putting a Leupold 1-4 power on it and I couldn't be happier! We'll see if I can get a deer in the cross hairs next month!

Have you tried using night vision scopes? I'm not a big fan of night hunting but sometimes I happen to do it. So, I got on this site link removedand now I want to try it. If you have any experience with it I would be happy for your testimonials.
Resurrecting a very old thread and using it to advertise.
