i cant believe all the whining about a common sense law like this. Hunter orange has been required for decades and anyone stupid enough not to put orange OUTSIDE the blind where it can be seen deserves to get shot IMO. What i dont get is it not being required on elevated blinds. Does that mean I can leave the orange off when hunting from a treestand? rhetorical question. Of course not.

Normally, deer are on the ground. I won't say that they are never over four foot from the soil because someone probably has a utube of one in a tree.

I don't believe all ground is level, nor do I believe the path of the bullet will always be within 4' of the ground. A blind 4' off the ground on a slope could actually be more dangerous then one on the ground. Also seems to me that a "natural blind" which doesn't require the 144" each side would be harder to see then a man made material one and therfore could be more dangerous to hunt in. Yes, I agree deer normally stay on the ground, but I do have a trial cam pic of one that's about 5' in the air with a spread winged turkey standing on the ground next to her.LOL

That's why I said they are normally on the ground. You guys are.putting way too much thought into this new.reg. It's meant to improve safety of the hunter using a blind. Being that hunters should be able to see that ground isn't level, and that deer are ALMOST always on the ground, if they see movement in.a tree or.off the ground they should not shoot at it. Pretty dang simple. Enough so that there's really no excuse to look for.loopholes around it.

Timex, Yes it should be pretty dang simple, but as you well know, all movement on or off the groung should be identifyed before shooting. I think the law was to address safety for those hunters that are concealed,"not able to be seen" due to being in a blind. I think the "loopholes" are in the law itself.

That is we differ. I see it as when you go deer hunting during.deer season, you need to show some huntrr.orange.
Isee a few people trying to wiggle around it. The way i see it is that its too late for that.

What i dont get is it not being required on elevated blinds. Does that mean I can leave the orange off when hunting from a treestand? rhetorical question. Of course not. I think TD makes a good point here. If I'm in a treestand I'm required to wear orange (which I think is fine). If I'm in a ground blind, there has to be orange on the blind (which I agree with). But if I'm in an elevated blind that blind is not required to have orange on it? I don't agree with that. Orange should be required on all hunters and on all blinds period during the seasons that require it.

Why do you assume men (and women) discussing a new rule and its wording as trying to wiggle around it or find a loophole?
Seems pretty obvious from this and past conversations that some aren't crazy about the rule itself and others don't like the grey areas the wording leaves.

I don't use them much, would rather just use a natural set up if I'm ground hunting, but I'm not crazy about the new rule.
You set up a ground blind well in advance and brush it in well so the deer get used to it and walk close by it. Then the first time you go to hunt out of it, you have to plaster it with blaze orange, significantly changing the appearance, alerting the game.

I sat in a ground blind once with no orange on it and was more worried about being shot then hunting deer that day, every since that time I have always thrown a orange hat on the roof before I sit in one. I want others to know that I'm in the area and I want to know were others are also, I can't image what I would feel like if I accidentally shot someone because I didn't know or didn't see a blind in the area (and hope I never do) .
