Anybody ever sign up for this thru the DNR & get selected? I'm thinking about it but wondered if it's for real. Gotta find a new spot this year.

Wife and I both have signed up since first supposed to come about, no response. Talked to many farmers in three counties, they never heard of the program.

I seen in a magazine that Ohio had this program too and they done away with it. There were thousands of hunters signed up and only a handful of farmers signed up. The farmers are always griping about deer damgage but then they never let anyone hunt there property. In my opinion squirrels and raccoons do more crop damge then deer.

So far it seems this program isnt catching on with farmers. Im surprised the IDNR isnt requiring farmers that want depo permits to sign up for this program first and allow licensed hunters to solve their problem. h.h.

My guess is that quite a few of the farmers getting depredation permits also allow licensed hunters to shoot the deer. And my guess is that most farmers want to pick who they want to do the shooting, and not just accept anyone who happens to have a deer hunting license.

Why couldn't they pick? Here's how it works. You want dep. permits. Fine. You must allow x number of people to hunt. Here is a list of names. Pick x amount of names and try that route first. Landowner may interview or talk to as many as he would like before he picks. I don't know exact numbers that enrolled in the program but i'm sure there are many qualified safe hunters on list.
