I seen this thread on another forum and figured i would share it here and see what everyones answers are. What week/weeks do you take off for vacation during hunting season to be in the woods. In other words whens that time you want to be in the woods for the best possible chance to tag "your" trophy??
Myself and three other guys usually set up deer camp the last weekend of bow and the first week of gun season, in the past weve been pretty successful.
Whats your thoughts??

I have NEVER taken off work during deer season. That said, I still hunt every evening after work and on weekends. Myself, I consider November 4-8 to be the best days to be in the woods if you are after a mature buck.

In the past 5 or 6 years, the hot week has chaged 5 or 6 timess. It can be any week from late Oct. to the second weekend of Gun season. Even when it misses, your best chance is the gun opener. IF you had to pick without the crops and weather being in the mex, I'd pick the week starting Nov. 5 or so for archery and the first week for gun.

I like the period of October 27 thru November 6th for bow hunting. The rut is usually ramping real good by the gun opener.

Until this year, as a teacher, my only time off outside of weekends has been a couple days in October for fall break and a couple days in November for Thanksgiving break. I usually take a personal day somewhere in there so in a normal deer season, I probably avg. 8 - 10 days afield. This is our first year on a balanced calendar which will give me the last two full weeks of October off. I am psyched about that. I have never had such a block of time off during hunting season. I don't know what I will do with myself!

I save all my vacation for hunting and usually have from Oct 20- Nov 20th for the woods. 31st-9th are my best days out there. Can't wait just thinking about it!

Since I hunt Deer only during firearm part of the season; I can hunt at anytime, morning, afternoon, & evening. Usually I harvest my Buck within three or four days into the gun season.

If I only had one week to choose to hunt in Southeastern Indiana, it would have to be first week of November. Easy call for me. That is the week I have seen the most buck cruising activity by far. And the best time of the day to hunt that week is about 10 to noon. One November 5th, I saw 12 different bucks cruising in that 2 hour window.

I'm retired, so everyday is vacation. I plan on spending a LOT of time in the woods.
