OK here are just two of several I killed that I consider trophies they were mature and have very very different scores . IMHO saying either one is not a trophy is nonsense. Attachments:

sorry not on the same post not sure how to post multiple pics on the same thread but this is the second buck I consider a trophy .But there is almost a 50 inch difference in the two .So being all wrapped up in strictly numbers to define a trophy is cutting out a huge number of what many consider a trophy . If you were to ask someone if they consider a six point a trophy they likely would say NO! but show them a pic of this 4.5 year old 6 i have in my den and they suddenly consider it a trophy due to its size and age. All I'm saying is pigeonholing guys by posting inches a min to make a trophy will always gain you an argument . Especially here and yes I am as big a trophy hunter as the next guy. Attachments:

No one pigeon holed you into posting anything. You could have mumbled to yourself about the absurdity of attaching numbers to trophies and not posted anything. This thread asked for numbers. I do agree with you though (and nice bucks, by the way...both of them). So maybe I would ascribe different numbers of inches for different number of points. If I were to do that, I would say a trophy 5 or 6 pointer in Indiana, IMO, would be 125+. For 7 or 8 pointers I would say 135+. For 9 or 10 pointers I would say 145+, for 11 or more points I would say 160+. All numbers gross, of course.

One of My points is that I think that any mature buck regardless of rack inches is a trophy .To me mature is what the majority of experts say and that is 4.5 years old or older! I'm thinking also much like Woody's post that it depends where you hunt as well . In some states/areas I have hunted if you killed a 2.5 or 3.5 year old buck you were killing the most mature bucks that state /area has to offer for the most part . Sure a guy can hold onto his personal trophy inch min I applaud their will power and desire .But they have to be knowledgeable enough to know that they may set in many of these areas/states for years or decades letting all the bucks they see pass right by them ,that all the other hunters in that place will shoot as soon as they can. So what is a trophy will remain a debate and a personal thing .

Personally numbers are over rated in judging a "trophy". This buck scored about 130, but was a true trophy to me. This deer that was killed by a friend of mine cant score 60 points but is a genuine "trophy".

I'll quote a great statement I read on another board by a good friend:
"What deer to kill is a personal choice. Unfortunately, hunting has become a contest and a lot of people are self conscious wondering if they measure up to others. They ask the question for verification and want to know if they'll be accepted for what they choose to kill. Honestly, who gives a rats *** what anyone else thinks about what you kill. If it makes you happy, kill it. If it won't, let it walk. The commercialization of the hunting industry has ruined the fun of the sport for a lot of new and inexperienced hunters."
Dan, said some wise words and true words. We as hunters gotta get over trying to decide what should and shouldn't be taken by hunters...go after what makes you happy and be happy. If that means going years eating tag soup because you want a 6+ year old mature buck, so be it. If you simply want to claim you've shot a buck with more than a unicorn, so be it. Each mean just as much to the hunter who took the deer, that is where it should stop.

My trophy case has a capacity of about 17 cubic feet, and was made by White/Westinghouse. I like antlers as much as anybody, and early in the season, I'll hold off on bucks that don't really impress me. When it gets down to crunch time, say like the last weekend of ML season, I'll shoot any "decent" buck. To me that is at least a "good" 8 (or a big 6) or better. Just hate not using that buck tag.

If killing a small, young 6 pointer that will fill your freezer does it for you, I would again say "have @ it".

New to the site.................hello everyone.I would have to say that a 150 class whitetail is a trophy buck in Indiana.Heck,I'm still trying to take my 1st 150 after 49 years of hunting them in Indiana and other states.

That's net. I think most people talk gross when throwing around numbers. I know I do. Most deer that net 140 are usually what most hunters call "150 class" deer.

My number is 140" gross.
That number is likely to go up as I get older .... but for now 140 is what I try for each year.

That's net. I think most people talk gross when throwing around numbers. I know I do. Most deer that net 140 are usually what most hunters call "150 class" deer. I won't argue that point. Simple fact is most hunters can't field judge anyway. Everybody wants 150's, but a bunch kill 130's or less. I see it every year. Guys can't stand to eat a tag when the season gets short. Most anyway. Hard to generalize this, because I know guys that strictly won't kill anything that won't net 160.
