Text for the Day -- II Corinthians 7:10-12 ---------- For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly grief produces death. For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves guiltless in the matter. So although I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong, nor on account of the one who was wronged, but in order that your zeal for us might be made known to you before God.
Devotional ---------- Paul writes to the Corinthians in response to the reconciliation that has occurred between them. He makes a clear distinction between godly grief and worldly grief. Godly grief leads to repentance, that is, a change of heart. Such work is the work of God. It is the way reconciliation happens. Godly grief is the grief over a broken relationship. God grief leads to healing and restoration.
Prayer ------ Work godly grief in my heart, Lord, whenever my relationships become broken. Amen
