Anybody else loose their electricity with the storms that came through Indiana Friday afternoon,or is it just me ? Sounds like it might be the end of the week before it gets turned back on. We had to drive all the way (about 1 1/2 hour trip 1 way) to Richmond to find a generator. It was like a madhouse down there.People were coming from Indy & Dayton looking for them.Menard's was having an emergency shipment brought down from Chicago because of the demand. We lucked out,Sears had just called a little rinky dink home and garden place on the other side of town to check on them and found out they had some.We were lucky enough to get there before the mob hit ;D.

I bought a generator for myself and another for my mom and dad last spring after storms knocked our power out.
I bought gen sets that had a 240v L1430R output and hardwired an outlet into my homes breaker box. Used an isolation bracket to lock out the main breaker when the generator breaker is on.
Done this way I can basically run my whole house (110 only, dont have enough watts to run the 220 stuff) from that gen set without doing anything else.
Our power went out last night around 6:00. I fired up the gen set, flipped some breakers in my panel ..... lights/fridge/ceiling fans were back on and the kids were back to watching their movie on nexflix.
Im getting ready to build an addition on my house and plan to set an automatic transfer switch big enough to someday put in a genset capable of running everything including the 220 stuff.
Being without power sucks even for a short period of time. I feel for the folks who have to endure days and days of it.

Someday I'd like to get it set up to where I can run the 220 stuff too. I don't like not having hot water, stove and a/c . Luckily at about 5pm yesterday afternoon they turned it back on ;D. It wasn't near as long as what we were hearing.

The circuit we live on has a lot of tree-lined, river bottom ROW that is tough for the crews to access when it is dry, let along when the river is up. So following the big flood a few years ago I installed a 17 KW Generac & an automatic transfer switch to eliminate the extended outages that we experience.

Last night on the news Fort Wayne still has around 40,000 without power and the mayor is wanting to declare Ft Wayne a disaster area so Feds will kick in money for clean up. Fridays storms packed 90+ mph winds and took down thousands of trees. Some neighborhoods in Ft Wayne are still blocked in with trees down in the streets. h.h.
