With this great weather and early spring green up. Am thinking there could be some real monster's killed this coming fall. The deer are getting a great nutrition boost from the early green up which should translate into some big rack's come fall. ( Have noticed my mineral site's are allready receiving increased activity as well.)

I am thinking the same thing. I hope this means another month of growth. I have to do some research on this, but do you think rut will come a little earlier? I better get on the google machine and see what it says.

Rut's trigger is number of hour's of daylight. (So that shouldn't change) , but wouldn't be surprised if the buck's are a little friskier early prerut as they should be in great shape health wise, if the weather stay's mild and we receive avg to above average rainfall this summer

I would think rainfall / moisture will have a part in development too...

I don't know about you guys, but I am chomping at the bit to find out.
Hunting is just about all I think about! Seriously. I used to be the same way about fishing, but that has all changed. I think for the better to.

Yep me too. Sprayed my clover food plot's yesterday and topped off mineral lick's with some "Lucky Buck". Gonna wait a week and top dress plot's with some fertilizer and lime. Also getting ready to seed 8 acre's alfalfa. (For my horse's) but I know the deer will enjoy it also. Plot's are looking fantastic for March.

the early growth wont matter a bit if all this rain disappears and we have a summer of extremly hot and dry weather. yeah they may be eating good now but if it dries out and gets extremly hot(which is what i am thinking will happen) watch out. dont let this early green spring fool you. summer could be real bad.

A few weeks back I heard a weather man state that the pattern that is bringing in this early warmth should revert back to nornmal by summer........

weather men cant predict what the weather is going to do tomorrow accurately. how can you possibly believe what they are predicting about what summer will be. only job in the world where you can be wrong 50percent of the time and still have a job.

LOL and I agree on all point's. Definitely will have to continue to have good weather through the whole antler growing process, but with this early spring the deer should benefit greatly early and should get off to a great start for 2012. (Time will tell)

I think this mild winter has to help the deer herd going into spring. I bet there were fewer bucks dying from being run down by the rut. All the deer I saw this winter looked fat and healthy. Usually we have snow covering the ground for several weeks at a time. This winter I didn't see snow on the ground for more than a day. That has to make it easier on them to find food. We should have a nice bunch of fawns this summer too.

I would think winter related turkey losses would be less as well.

You must remember no matter how warm it is, that will not alter a buck's genetics. Also many factors can play a factor on when a buck starts growing it rack for the year but the leading one according to many biologists is the amount of daylight...photoperiodism. Other factors will play a part but just like a doe will come into heat when her body tells her too (with weather maybe pushing it a few days either way).
I am hopefull too though that atleast this good weather will cause bucks to reach up just a touch higher towards their maximum potential. But genetics my friends is not altered at all by good weather. Also browse and food play a big factor...if their isn't enough of that to feed their growth come the growing time no good weather will ever help.
