Funny you asked! We were just talking about it today. ;D
I'm heading back up this year. Hopefully a couple of times. I missed last year for the first time in about 12 years or so. More than likely will be mid May for the first trip.
This year I'll be taking my 2 boys for the first time. Can't wait to have them hook into a monster smallie!
Everyone post up pics of your trip. If anyone is going and needs help with locations or wants to try a new location, let me know. I mainly fish Anchor Bay, but will also head a little further south this year.

Hard to believe the lake is ice free. Normally at least 2 feet of ice right now and the ice breakers are keeping the shipping channel open.

Mild winter might move the span up a few weeks this year. Lake Erie has some great smallie fishing not far off shore east of Sandusky. Deep water comes in real close to the shore line. You can wear your arm out catching smallmouth and they average 4-5 lbs. h.h.

If it ain't out of the south it can be bad. Thing I like about LSC is that its more fishable in the wind as compared to Erie. Fish quality and quantity are equal. I've had numerous 100 fish days.

After all these years whitetail1, you've got me bad with this St. Clair fever. I just talked to Ronnie again and he has his calendar marked for May 17-20. We can likely change that as your schedule might dictate. He's majorly stoked and ready to roll. My passion here is the Smallies on the Fly!! I'm looking to take a few fly rods with plenty of Clousers. I've got a 9 ft, 9 wt and a 9 ft, 6 wt. I'm reading on line that the perfect all round rod is a 9 ft, 8 wt. I haven't built a rod in a few years and I'm toying with the thought of building one again for this purpose since I like to choose and space my own guides. I've also read that I should not solely count on the fly rod as the wind can be quite unpredictable. Anyone here been on St. Clair with the fly rod? Thoughts and advice?

There is a member on www.lakestclair.net forum that goes by esoxfly. Nice guy and I'm sure he can hook you up with tips. Once June comes around they have there mayfly hatch. Its nothing like you ever seen before. They actually use snow shovels to clear the sidewalks and windows are so covered with them you can't see out. LOL. The water will have a solid mat of them on top. I've been going there for many years and can hook you up with some good spots.

Join up at lakestclair.net and send him a pm. Great guy who fly fishes up there. Hoosier Hunter - I will try to touch base with you before we head up there. I think you normally fish further south than I do. Maybe we can trade some area information.

Yeah from Anchor Bay down to Fords Mansion is my normal fishing grounds. Will also cross over to the middle channel and where the SC river dumps in. I have some friends on BBC that live up there and help me out too if needed. New boat this year and looking forward to covering some water.

Thanks for the info guys. HH: My buddy is asking if anyone knew of the best way/place nearby to land a few eyes for the table, too. Any thought? I have never targeted walleyes myself but plenty of people do. We catch several every trip on bass gear. I see alot of walleye guys trolling in 6-10 FOW in L'anse Creuse Bay www.marinecruiser.com/chart.html. Typically if there is no cloud cover these guys are off the water by late morning. You could likely get some tips on walleyes here www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58. A suggestion would be to book a 4 hour walleye guide trip if you really want to figure how their catching them.

What is the best time to catch Smallmouth on Lake ST. Clair ? What are some tips you could give me for catching Smallmouth on the Lake ? Anytime in May. Fish tubes on the western side in 6 to 9 FOW and you can't miss. You'll be a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off shore.
