Yes, you have to keep record of it (for life). Even pick ups have to have tags unless they are sheds.

I had to send my tag to pope and young on all three i have registered...what then? they requested it along with field photos of the deer to verify it was harvested legally...so does my pope and young certificate count as proof it was legal since they verified it?

I have pope and young deer and heve never sent in a tag. A copy is all they need. Lay the steel tag on a copy machine and send in the paper copy. Thats all they require.

Another prime example of antler worshiping.

Strange about the tags. Many states don't give a tag. You just call in and report you harvested a deer. The State of Indiana DNR should have verification of the harvest in the computer from when a deer is checked in and the tag is given it would seem.

I'd doubt that they input all the info from all the check cards into a computer, over the last 50 yrs. that folks have been hunting. I'd bet that nearly 99% of hunters have a few they can't find the tags or numbers on if need be?

If you read the whole story, sounds like the guy probably lives close by and has been sneaking into and hunting that property (probably a stone or gravel quarry) for a long time. Probably one of those places like the GM plant near Fort Wayne, where there are a bunch of big deer, but the place is off limits to hunting.
He must have opened his mouth bragging a few too many times. probably a whole lot more of that stuff goes on that what we realize.

That deer and poacher was covered here about a month ago. Yes, he was doing it for years and got spanked for it.

Has he been convicted? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Or just charged? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) (Innocent untill proven guilty.) Could be case of another jealous hunter pointing the finger?
