Anyone use these for squirrel? I am going to try them this year. The CCIs that I bought move less than 800fps. This will be interesting!

If you are gonna shoot fox squirrels with them I bet you lose a lot of them.

I have a Ruger 77/22 that I shoot Remington subsonics with. It just doesn't like the higher velocity ammo. I have had very good results shooting fox squirrels with this load. On the other hand I have shot fox squirrels with the CCI CBs with a 30 grain bullet at about the 800 f/s velocity and had mixed results. Some squirrels were killed very efficiently and two were not. One of these was in a tall tree on a high river bank and the bullet hit a little off center on the rib cage. The squirrel fell and when I went to retrieve it on the bank. It started to run. When finally dispatched and later skinned, two ribs were discovered broken but the bullet then glanced under the hide and out the back. The other one was hit on the lower jawbone and the bullet glanced around under the hide and out the top. When picked up it started to regain its senses and was promptly thrown to the ground and finished off. I decided to use a little more powerful load after these two incidents.

I've tried them once and found them to lack power to put down a Fox Squirrel. Also the accuracy is bad. The best .22 LR Ammo, I found, is CCI mini-Mags Hollow Points or Super-X.

I just use cheap federal rounds... like 90 cents a box of 50... I have found that they are more accurate than any of the hollow points and I have never had a problem with not knocking them down.

Remingtons accuracy is acceptable, ditto on the fox. Only very good head shots will bring down a fox squirrel. Love that "smack" with subsonics.

A recent article in "Guns and Ammo" discussed the advantages of subsonic loads for the 22. Accuracy and wound channel were said to be better with the subsonics.

If you are gonna shoot fox squirrels with them I bet you lose a lot of them. Head shots will put them down, with no problems. I have put them out instantly with a pellet gun before... I had a good shooting session tonight with the 29gr, 720fps CCI CB longs. I was shooting good groups at 50 yards and was absolutely deadly at 25 yards. I was using my Marlin 25N with a cheapo Tasco 2-7 x 20mm. I will give them a try on squirrels in the next couple of weeks and report back.

My CZ Ultra Lux shoots RWS subsonics very well and they are quiet out of it's 28 in. barrel.

I like the subsonics and have noticed little difference than with hyper velocity loads. Of course this year it'll be the .17 HMR......

For what its worth, I have a 77/22 that shoots the 60 gr sss aguila rounds very accurately, and it is a very quiet round. It will dispatch any squirrel out there as long as it is a head or chest shot, and if you choose your shots wisely most will be.
Word of warning though: the aguila sss rounds are rather picky and will keyhole easily. I myself have 4 different 22's, and only the Ruger will shoot them well. I would like to try out that Paco accurizer on some of them sometime, if I ever get around to buying one.

I also like the Aquila SSS. My Ruger 96/22 shoots them well and my Glock Accurate Arms kit shoots them well. They don't work for beans in my AR-7 "Survivor". I haven't tried them in my Match rifle.
FWIW, I have also been successful with headshots and the Aquila Colibris inside of 25 yds.

I shoot the Aguila subsonics (SE or Super Extra) and have never had a problem with them on fox squirrels. If you hit them in the head they are dead, with quite a loud THWACK when contact is made. I also think that the slower moving stuff knocks them out of the tree better.

My Ruger 77/22 digests Remington SS's, Eley, SS's, and RWS SS's very well. The Eley's and RWS's will shoot in the same holes. I do a lot of target shooting with the Remingtons, as they are cheaper, but shoot very well. They are a little louder in the woods though. I have not seen much of a difference between the three on game though. My Remington 541 sporter will only shoot Eley's well. My cz shoots them all ok.

I shoot them out of my Marlin Golden 39 And they preform super most semi auto wont cycle them as they have a reduced power charge. I can touch holes easy at 60 yards with them all day long
