I finally bought myself a new carry gun. It was much needed. I've been keeping an Iver Johnson revolver that is about 100 years old in my car. New gun money is very hard to come by for me. I saved some birthday and Christmas money and sold a few things I didn't need anymore so I could buy it. I read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of videos on youtube about small semi autos. A coworker got a new Bersa and I checked it out. It seemed like a nice gun, but it had small metal dust/shavings stuck all around the slide in the oil. It looked like it wasn't cleaned very good before it left the factory. That kind of turned me away from that one. I decided to get the Kel-tec PF9. It was cheap and had great reviews. I like the sights and the compact size of it. It seems to fit my hand nicely and I don't mind the recoil at all. I got the gun, a 9mm cleaning kit, an inside the belt holster, and a box of shells for $317 out the door. I didn't that that was a bad price. Woody, if your still looking for a small semi auto, you might give the Kel-tec another look Everything but the cleaning kit

Congratulations scrub-buster! I had one and loved it. I only sold it to fund a different gun. You probably know this, but I'll add some tidbits here anyway.
The more I shot it, the better it got, especially after 500+ rounds.
It seemed the cheaper the ammo, the better it shot (never quite figured that one out).
I found tons of help on various sites and youtube when it came to shooting, performance, breakdown, cleaning and reassembly...
ENJOY!!!

Thanks for the tips. I shot it a few times today. It is freezing out and I'm just getting over a cold so I didn't want to stay out to long. I've watched some youtube videos on it, but don't know where to find the other sites about it. Could you share a link or two?
This is my first real semi auto handgun so I'm still learning.

I purchased a Ruger LCP for myself for Christmas. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. We'll see. Thought about a 9mm but couldn't pass up the deal I got from my buddy.

Many semi autos need a good breaking in. I'd recommend putting 100 or so rounds through it to get all the "gremlins" chased away.
I like the looks of those small pistols. I picked up a 9mm XD "sub-compact" a few months back but it's pretty bulky for a carry piece.

I hope to put 50 rounds through it on thursday. Maybe more if I can pick up another box of ammo. I really like how thin this gun is. It fits inside the waistband very nicely.
Thanks highcottonguide for the links. There is a lot of good reading on both sites.

Many semi autos need a good breaking in. I'd recommend putting 100 or so rounds through it to get all the "gremlins" chased away. Kahr recommends 200 rounds, they are a polymer frame. Basically the break-in smooths the edges of the plastic. I would try to throw as many different kinds of ammo at it as you can during the first couple hundred rounds you run through it. Don't stick with just one ammo, and if possible, mix up different brands and bullet weights in the same mag. Chances are, if it's going to hiccup it will do it during the break-in. We definitely need a range report when you get it going!

Lube it good when you are breaking it in. My neighbors son bought an all stainless 1911 - new. He was running a bunch of rounds thru it then came over to the house to show me the gun. There wasn't a drop of oil on it. I cringed.......

I put about 75 rounds through it yesterday. I was using Federal and Remington ammo. I had one federal round that didn't seat. It was the first one in the magazine and when I worked the action, it wouldn't seat all the way. I'm not sure what happened. I might have not had it in the magazine correctly, I don't know. I worked the action again and the next round loaded fine. That was the only hiccup all day. I was shooting decent groups at 15 yards. I shot Grey Squirrels S & W M & P 9mm and I was shooting incedible groups with that. It is a bigger and heavier gun than the PF9.
I was very happy with how the PF9 performed. This gun is exactly what it is advertised as. A thin, small carry gun. If you are looking for a gun to shoot every day at the range, you might be better off getting something bigger and more comfortable to shoot.

Your initial range trip sounds similar to mine with my XD. The very first round was a failure to feed. I removed the mag, started over, and everything has been flawless since then.
Glad that you're happy with the new gun.

After carrying the S&W MP9c for about a year now, you definitely got me thinking about a smaller gun for concealed carry.. my wife is already giving me them 'mean' looks..LOL, anyways, guys that Kel-Tec is something! I was impressed. And very impressed with the way scrub took my own gun and outshot me! He was lights out with the Smith!

That S&W just seemed to find the target on its own. If you ever decide to let that one go, give me a call first.

Hope you guys are still intrested in this topic, I just bought a Kel Tec PF 9mm still in the box never fired from a co-worker. I paid $275 and got two boxes of range shells (Winchester) good deal? or not. I think it's at least a fair deal I'm just getting into hand guns so I'm a rookie in this department. Thanks for your input.
