Way too long for IN. It's like 2.9".

The parent case is 2.9 or so. But have they cut it down to 1.8? The case has a larger diameter at the base than WSSM cases, by about 0.030".

I think they dut it .005 shorter so if any stretching the spent case wont be stretched out past 1.8 if a co would happen to have a set of mics.

So, I guess it would take a large action to handle the .378 Weatherby case head dia.. Most of those are really long for such a short round

Ruger #1 frame as far as rounds they will sell the brass ready to load. Dad said they may try a bolt gun later on. he has shot some .75" groups at 100 yards but he was only gettin 2985 fps with that load.

If the CO has mics, he can measure a loaded round. The spent case and the chamber dimensions have nothing to do with the regs. The regs apply to the loaded round only.

Nope - it applies to the case length, not overall loaded round length. Even states that in the hunting guides.

No kidding.
I should have said the CO could measure the case of a loaded round. The regs don't apply to fired cases. The regs apply to the ammunition used.
And if a CO wrote a ticket because the stretch between an unfired legal case and a fired case put it over the legal limit by say 0.005, I'd hope the judge would have the sense to toss it out.

Yep - it would be a good idea to trim just a little shorter to allow for that.

The regs allow for the loaded case to be exactly 1.800". It is a known fact that cases stretch a few thousandths upon firing. IMO, there's no need to worry about this. I know I won't.
Now, it is common reloading practice to trim to the lower limit of the case length tolerance when cases are trimmed. I don't know what the lower limit for the 358 Hoosier is yet, but this may allow a few reloads before the resized cases would exceed the 1.800" limit, and would need to be trimmed again.
