do i need an urban license or is my reg archery tags enough? The latest from the DNR - To answer the question, “what license do I need to deer hunt in an urban zone?” the answer is an urban deer zone license, unless the hunter is exempt from needing a license. Remember the urban deer license is included in 1) the youth consolidated hunting license, 2) the lifetime comprehensive hunting license and 3) the lifetime comprehensive hunting and fishing license. The urban deer zone license is available for sale in the iPOS system.

I thought if you hunted an urban zone you could shoot both of your bucks there. I figured if you have already shot your urban zone buck you would now have to shoot a doe before you could kill your other buck. That's the way I thought the rules worked. Don't hunt the urban zone, but know people that do. Yes you can, but only one will be under the UDZ tag and that is archery only...If a hunter has killed his UDZ archery buck he can not kill another buck at this time. If he had killed one buck in the UDZ area that was tagged with a regular statewide tag (gun or bow) then he would be good to go on the UDZ buck after killing a doe of course.

So now there is a UDZ license as well? Just a bit of a thread hijack, but the DNR apparently hasn't listened to everyone complaining (there's a slightly harsher term I'd rather use than complaining) about the license structure since the advent of the OBR....... That's all that's needed in IN- one more license type. They really, really, really need to come out with a yearly "sportsmens" license!

So now there is a UDZ license as well? ...........and a license bundle and a crossbow license. They are even talking about a fee for Telecheck..Just a bit of a thread hijack, but the DNR apparently hasn't listened to everyone complaining (there's a slightly harsher term I'd rather use than complaining) about the license structure since the advent of the OBR....... That's all that's needed in IN- one more license type. But we will stay with one buck no matter what the license structure is..the bundle will allow you to hunt all seasons on one buck tag, but you cant still only kill one buck.
Indiana deer limits are 500 antlerless and one buck. make sense? NoooooThey really, really, really need to come out with a yearly "sportsmens" license! That was on a short list that never got moved up..

check stations open in Marion county: pop guns (east side): bait barn: gander mountain(castleton square), i asked the CO about needing an urban license, not needed if you have regular archery and bonus antlerless , no urban license is needed this year.

That is not what the DNR email said. Anyone going hunting in the UDZs should contact their county C O first and get his thoughts

Official word.....
Changes to Urban Deer Zones The new deer rule changes that the Natural Resources Commission gave final adoption to this fall are now in effect. This means that the 2011 Urban Deer Zone season has been extended until January 31, 2012. Here is a summary of additional changes to the Urban Deer Zone: * The urban deer zone season now lasts from Sept. 15 through Jan. 31. (Previously, the urban deer zone ended the first Sunday in January). * A new urban deer zone license is required and replaces the old requirements of needing an extra archery license, bonus antlerless, or regular archery license. The resident urban deer zone license is $24 and the nonresident urban deer zone license is $150. Resident youth hunt/trap, lifetime comprehensive hunting, or lifetime comprehensive hunting and fishing license or those exempt from needing a license, do not need to purchase urban deer zone licenses. * The urban deer zone in Lake and Porter counties now includes the entire county. * Hunters that are using an urban deer zone license must harvest at least one antlerless deer before harvesting an antlered deer with an urban deer zone license; a.k.a, “earn-a-buck.” The earn-a-buck program only applies to the urban deer zone season. * Crossbows can now be used during the urban deer zone season. The bag limit for the urban deer zone remains the same at 4 antlerless deer (one per license), or with the new “earn-a-buck,” 3 antlerless deer and 1 antlered deer (one per license). Urban deer zones were established to provide hunters opportunities to harvest deer in specified areas in addition to regular bag limits. Urban deer zones are for archery and crossbow hunting only. This provision does not override any local ordinances restricting bow and arrow or crossbow use. What does this mean for the remainder of the 2011 Urban Deer Zone Season? Here are some scenarios that should help hunters determine license requirements and harvest regulations for the remainder of the 2011 Urban Deer Zone season, which ends January 31, 2012. Scenario 1 - if a hunter has already harvested an antlered deer in an urban deer zone this season (Sept. 15, 2011 – Jan. 31, 2012), all the hunter can harvest thru Jan. 31 would be antlerless deer in an urban deer zone; assuming the hunter has not reached the bag limit for the urban deer zone. Scenario 2 – if a hunter hasn’t harvested an urban zone antlered deer and has already harvested an urban zone antlerless deer during the 2011 urban zone deer season, the hunter has already met the “earn-a-buck” requirement. The hunter can harvest one urban zone antlered deer thru Jan. 31 in an urban deer zone. Scenario 3 – if a hunter hasn’t harvested any urban zone deer this season, the hunter must harvest an antlerless deer in an urban deer zone prior to harvesting an antlered deer in an urban deer zone. Urban Deer Zones are: • Lake County • Porter County • Vanderburgh County • Fort Wayne – the portion of Allen County within the bounds of Interstate 69 and Indiana 469. • Indianapolis – all of Marion County, Hendricks County east of Indiana 267; southeast portion of Boone County bounded by Indiana 267, Interstate 65, Indiana 32; and the portion of Hamilton County south of Indiana 32. • Lafayette – the portion of Tippecanoe County north of Indiana 28. • Michigan City – the portion of LaPorte County north of Interstate 94. • Warsaw – the portion of Kosciusko County within the corporate limits of Warsaw. All other deer rule changes that went into effect on January 1, 2012 can be found at www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/2362.htm. This information will be summarized and included in the Hunting Guide that will come out later this summer (June/July). For more information: Kevin Hoffman, Fish and Wildlife, khoffman@dnr.in.gov.

speaking with local co will only confuse more , so today on the phone ( deer hotline) i am told completely different info than i was told yesterday, man o man the dnr has realy mixed this up , they tell me that an urban license is needed , yesterday was different news, lol. aswell the co tells me that if a doe was tagged in urban zone a person is good to take a buck , then i read woody's post and he is told something totaly different, rofl. i think i will leave my bow in case and wait till next season , when the DNR has it crap together, as confusion will get me fined or worst. special thanks to indiana dnr for another confusing burocracy!

My local CO just informed me the UDZ license became available online yesterday. I cannot use my bonus antlerless license from 2011 season and I need to purchase the new UDZ tag if I wanna shoot a doe this month.
