I have this Smith & Wesson 629 that I will be removing the 6.5 inch factory ported barrel and the Leupold base and rings and replacing them with this 3 inch ported barrel in an effort to build a carry friendly handgun. so that means I have a few extra parts laying around.I used to own a 3" unfluted cylinder L.Horton 629 but let a good friend of mine talk me out of it back in 1997 and have kicked myself every since so now that I've decided to quit using this 629 for hunting I went on the search for a new barrel and found this NOS barrel on GB.
Here are a couple of pictures of a pig I shot with the one I owned before, I put the smack on this guy at 20yd shooting Rem. 180HP on top of 12gr of H110. That is the exit side in the picture, the bullet entered right on the back edge of the front shoulder and exited as you can see at the base of the neck, the pig only went 10yds after the shot.

My Tinnitus kicked it up a notch just looking at that!
They are fine firearms.

I would stay with a 4" barrel in case you ever wanted to hunt deer in In. That is just my preference.

Not long ago I had a chance to buy a 44 Anaconda for $400.00 but didnt because it had a 4" barrel. Still kicking myself in the butt over that one. h.h.
