What kind of beagles do you hunt with, and what size are they and do they run fast or poke. Which do you like the best?

Mine are mostly 13-14", on the fast side of medium to fast but can handle the line. They are not rangey and hunt with me. Most important they are clean which means they don't run trash, deer. My dogs are fun to hunt with. You don't stand around freezing to death waiting on them to bring the rabbit around.
Size wise here in the Midwest doesn't really mean much. The 15" dogs are the best in the deep snow country of the north running hare. Up there the bigger the better. The size was introduce by AKC to split up the classes by height and sex for License Trials.
Breed wise hare bred hounds are usually on the fast side because hare run in vary large circles to avoid predators while cottontails use evasive maneuvers to escape predators, like back tracking and zip-zagging in brier patches so cottontail hounds were breed on the medium to slow side and some are real slow.
Its nice there are many different bred to pick from so you can get the speed you most like to hunt with. All hunting beagles have the genetics to run rabbits or any other game animal you teach them to track. In some places they use the beagle to hunt pheasants and run deer.
The most import teaching you can do is when they are young. Teach them their yard manners which is nothing more than coming to you when called. Ive hunted as many as 12 dogs in the field at a time and take them any where I wanted to go. Most people who hunt with me comment on how well my dogs handle. Its no fun to be in the woods with dogs that you cant control and Ive seen this many times with other hunters. They spend more time chasing their dogs than running game.
Ive trained dogs for over 30 years now and sold them all over the United States and never had someone disappointed with what they bought and i sell all my pups with a 1 year guarantee, if you don't like it i will refund your money and to this vary day ive yet to have someone ask for a refund. h.h.
